Has anyone else noticed how slow fileplanets download rates are? What do I pay for? Steam is slowing everything down.

Will it ever end??

:wtf: Fileplanet is running out of bandwidth. I tried accessing a page before and said like it was offline or something. O.o Too many people are dling steam. If you want steam, you can get it at my website: http://www.hlrse.com/steaminstall.exe

2003-09-15 20:20:50 EST: 1526 / 121
Your download speed : 1526975 bps, or 1526 kbps.
A 186.3 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 121636 bps, or 121 kbps.
Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!

This test from
http://www.dslreports.com/stest
While downloading from fileplanet pay servers
at only (48.4KB/sec)---> Thats bull.

Normally I can have mulitple downloads, at over 100KB/sec each, from fileplanet.

Fileplanet kicks ass, they said due to large demand and stuff, they would be running a little slow for a while because they are increasing bandwith, should be over soon though.

I pay $6.95 to have no waiting for fast downloads. But what do i get? No waiting for slow downloads. I want what I pay for.
I pay $59 for 1.5meg down 756kbs up cable. I'd like to use its full potential. A drop from 3-100kbs downloads to 1-40kbs. I think Steam should have thought this through. They should of came up with a way to slowly intergrate Steam in groups using cd keys or maybe won id's
example

won id 1 through 20000 first 2 days
won id 20001 throgh 40000 next to days
etc.

The Steam client would use th won id, then through the steam content servers would update only in its allotted bracket. Do this over a few weeks to spread it out, keep the server load smaller. And give valve more time to work the bugs out of steam.

Just a thought.

Wonid is being replaced with new id's which are created with your account, therefore this wouldn't work and people would rush to get it anyway and the same thing would happen

I know they are being replaced. What i'm saying is they should use the won ids. To get your steam ids. Steaminstall.exe would check with the Won servers first, get your won id, then check with the steam servers. If your won id is in the current or a past update bracket it would then update your halflife installation. If not, it would wait till your bracket comes up. So even if they rushed to get updated, they would have to wait their turn. Those that havn't updated yet would still play on won. After a couple of weeks won would shut down. Like it is anyway. I think it would be a lot smoother transition.
