Started this map about a year ago and eventually forgot about it to work on map5. Since map5 only needs SC3.5 and I have no other SC1 projects, I went back to finish this one up.

At the time I had played a Duke Nukem 3D usermap called Phantasm (http://www.planetduke.com/msdn/hotphantasm.shtml) and was blown away by the tricks used in the map that seemed physically impossible. I decided to create a map that used that feeling. Also at the time I was playing through Metroid Prime, and I wanted gameplay similar to it. So I opted to have most of the world available initially with more areas available once an item was retrieved.

Slower computers may have trouble running this map due to high r_speeds. Although I didn't get much framerate complains from testers, I imagine there might be some computers that will struggle with the map. There are also a few jumping puzzles which I'm sure I'll get a lot of complaints about, but I don't really care, they're staying in.

i played many betas of this, and its a really cool map. i always hoped you'd finish it. the lighting in the map is so very different from other maps, and the constant jumping puzzles made me somewhat ;) better at jumping.

Uhhh...I need sc_phantasm.wad. I can run it with another wad but it makes the teleports and a few other things black and purple checkered. ALSO! THE MAP PWNZ! Though I give it a 9.99/10.00, the only reason i got rid of the 0.01 is cause you forgot the wad.

well this is a map that deserves to be in my servers mapcycle... I luv this kind of map.

EDIT: Btw, server name Ultimate Fun Hour.LS1(FIN) - . If someone is interested. Server Upload is 1mb, so its good, I use a good comp so u wont lag bechause of me then :rolleyes:

Phantastic map.
I've only played this for 10 minutes so far.
and my initial impression is that this is the sort of map where all players will hang around to reach the next stages.
Very good use of textures. (err .. and nice detail textures for map5 too :)

Captain Scarlet also has the file mirrored at:

which might come in handy because with a map this good,
your Lycos-Tripod freesite will probably use up it's bandwidth in a few hours.

i think spawning with a weapon would make it suck, also... this is a COOP map, shouldn't you be having some cover of some kind.

screens look interesting, I'll give it a try

edit: Played through map. I really like this. It is fun and original. All throughout there is a nice theme and a professional mapping style. Gameplay and enemy placement is excellent. Weapon selection seems just right for good enemy/player balance. The only thing I found to be slightly frustrating was the sudden respawning of the male assassins, like when you felt safe enough to continue on, one spawned right behind me and killed me. I like this map a lot, good job ;) also, thx for naming it with beta in the filename, I'm so tired of having different map version errors when betas are made into finals and keep same name.

Fun and origional indeed. I`ve not been able to fully play it yet because the server seems to crash as a sniper rifle falls into the trigger_hurt.

Yep.. your Download Mirror (http://www.svencoopcentral.com/download.php?view.206) includes the latest bsp (filedate: 24/11/04) and also includes the texture wad.

Also thanks for donating 100 gigs of bandwidth to all of us in the SC community every month.

Without the "Bulletpain online media empire" a lot of good maps (like Phantasmish) and models (like most the stuff on HIT), would be impossible to find if they had to rely of free Tripod hosts.

Man ... this is the uber pwnage map !! I like the new type of gameplay who consist to run from enemies and hide from them :) Also, i noticed that even noobs will work as a team and heal you , this is really a coop map !

Allthough arcitecture and texturing is great, i dont like maps like this one. But if you like strange places floating through space, you'll love this map.

How can anyone say they played it through. It crashes when you kill the snipers.....
Wierd. I've tried even sneaking up to the snipers and catching the rifle,, but it dont work.... any other version out there without the sniper crash. Other than that it looks good. :medic:

this where I crash when I kill the sniper up top.

Since Hezus hasn't reviewed this map yet.
And most of us usually wait for Hezus to comment
before we touch any map to know if it's good.

Phantasmish (beta): By Fourth Letter
This is a walkthrough type map with a bit of a difference.

To complete this map you'll need a mixture of puzzle solving skills,
jumping skills and good old fashion "head kicking the assassin" skills.

Note: Some people have posted about having problems running this map.
I've installed this under HL1110-Steam and HL1100-Won and haven't
had a crash yet ?.

No crash when I kill those Assassins :)

The Graphics:
What stands out immediately about this map is "the way it looks".
Not many mappers use a Xen-like skybox or build maps around floating
platforms, because I assume it's hard to make such maps look good.
Well this map is 110% visually perfect. (see for yourself below)

The map author has created 14 new custom textures, although I'm not
sure if the "ad_missing" texture will be in the final release :).

You'll also notice the transparent bridges are very well done.

The Graphics are as sexy as Bianca Beauchamp

The Gameplay:
Fourth Letter has put a lot of thought into the maps gameplay.

To progress through the map you'll need to collect keys and
trigger shortcuts. While a lot of other walkthrough maps rely
on the "spawn, rush, shoot, die, spawn, rush ..etc" type of gameplay,
Phantashmish offers something a little different (and there's a few
surprises too).

Also an unusual thing about this map is that you can see where you need
to go .. actually figuring out how to get there is half the fun!.

Balance in this game is perfect for 4 players (as long as your tooled up
at the beginning of the map). The time limit of 90 minutes is just
about right.

Hint: Find the green shortcut as quickly as you can.

The red shortcut has been triggered

Overall Comment:
This map is probably one of the better SC map releases for 2004.
Lets hope Fourth Letter makes a Final version

Overall Rating: 8/10

You'll get a bang when you find the map exit

While the map is great.
You spawn with absolutely no weapons, which makes it
very tricky to get anywhere at the beginning.

Another problem is the 800 gravity will cause a lot of
problems for people on servers with high pings.

No worries .. You can just edit the default config file
and change a few things like:

## Weapons Settings

## Physics Settings
sv_gravity 400
sv_maxspeed 270

This map is one of the best maps I've ever played so far, a dream-like architecture and a new style of gameplay (normal co-op and a little of omg-style trickjump). I never get bored of this maps, the only problem I found is that it's designed for 4 player, playing with 5 or over will cause a lot of telefrags.

Xen default grav is 400. ;)

Some of the jumps in this map are impossible with a ping of 200+

Hehe .. thats exactly how my Server browser looks too !....
I guess I must lack 1337 skillz when it comes to high ping jumping.

Skullky: There's only two jumps in the map that are really tricky with a high ping.

Anyway I'd recommend Server ops to knock the default gravity down (for us 56kers :) ) for this map.

Thank you LaggedRabbit for the review while I was a bit absent in taking the time to test this map fully.

Altho this map is different, I wouldn't rate it "Gimmick". It's a very good looking map and the theme is very origional. I had some fun with playtesting this.

The map might be pretty tricky for people with lag or just because you do not have enough skill, but sure is a challenge for the elite players. Co-operation is required on this map because of the skill level (mainly at the start) so I would recommend playing this with 4 players.

Because the theme is mostly air and panels, it's hard to rate it there. I`m more looking at the overall picture now, taking the well made lighting effects in account. The map looks nice and well made. Gameplay is a fine mix of action (nasty assasins) and nice jumping sequences. Havn't noticed any big problems on last testing so I guess this qualifies as a good map :).

Rating 7.5/10

I've been playing this map with Newt and .44, its very well done and fun, and its original. When I finish the map, Ill probably make a Review.


Just crashed with that Sniper Massn in the Orange room. Didnt crashed before.

Things I liked:
- great architecture - even though everything is in the air, it still exists
- texture choises
- those "image not found" pictures :D
- the "force bridges"
-> looks awesome!

Things I didn't like:
- too much running through same places - especially when you die
- too few shortcuts - it's frustrating to complete the same jump puzzles multiple times
- illogical puzzles, such as the keys and locks - they're never fun, unless you know where they are (not how to get there, of course) before you begin to search for them
- illogical shortcuts - you almost never knew where they opened, or why
- the "boss" - we thought it takes damage with any weapon, since it gave the "damage taken" sound when we shot it
- too much polies for old computers
-> bad gameplay!

It gave me the thought "Why is a map this cool being spoiled with a bad gameplay?"

Ok, I finished the map and it looks great. Never seen a "mapping-style" like this.
But the assassins in that first room are too hard. Spawning with a pistol with 1clip should be ok.
And i think the endsequence is a little bit too hard. But it rockZ!
The jumping sequences (most that two with the blue blocks and the black blocks in the red area) are also great!
And a few advise like messages would be helpfull sometimes.

I'm a fan of both Metroid Prime (and the other Metroid games ofc) and puzzles etc.
I prefer maps that look like this, over uh.. office complexes, industry.. whatever..
Needs moar Metroid Prime maps/models in SC :O
Gonna try this 'new' (?) version out, some day. :3

Same thing happens to me too.I dunno why :( But its a damn good map , havent played it over 20 mins and with other people.Died 30 times during that gameplay :D

ah yes i played the original to, i have to say it was a very entertaining map.
a bit hard to get going in the beginning but still very cool.

the only problem i had back when i played it was that there was way to much running to the same place involved.

I know I'm kinda late and all, being 2007 now... but how do I finish the map? We're stuck in the place with the massive turret and the area above it, with the shock troopers and barnacle. Is that the end or do we have to destroy the turret?
