Yes, with Tor, the various AI improvements and now the RPG grunts, SC players are going to have a lot more of a challenge. I really look forward to fighting these grunts, although this video seems to show that they're extremely tough. Amazing job as usual, Sniper!

Just one thing: Arn't the grunt's suppoed to stay and aiim? They just run away after the rocket pops out. Wierd thing is, that the dot is still there.

Well, guess it's only WIP.

What could be fun, was that they might chance between using laser sight and not, so that if they don't, they can just run away, but if they do, they have to stay stationary.

Grunt hides behing a dumpsters, strafes over the hall and launches a rocket at you, before he has gotten over and hides behind the next corner

Rocket grunts should stand still or strafe after they shoot and they should be slower than the normal grunt. I know they are not complete, I'm just giving some ideas.

If not u can always make a model replacement with rgrunt sounds, only thing is that it won't explode and start sparking etc.

Actually HL:Invasion (A french mod with rocket grutns) is probably the best single player mod i have ever played.

Invasion? That game WOULD have been good, if it wern't for the fact that it had so many bugs that it made the whole thing unplayable. You can't use cheats either, so if you get stuck in an elevator, you'r screwed. I'd say it's one of the WORST single player mods ever. Especially because it was so hard, and you couldn't put on god mode or anything...

Well i enjoyed it and didn't get any of those bugs. And as for the cheats i can understand noclip if you're stuck in an elevator but why would you need godmode? I actually played the game on the most difficult setting the first time i played and it was amazingly fun. Anyways sorry for going offtopic.

You might be able to complete it, but then you are extremely good at gaming.

edit: Another bad thing: Due to my dark monitor, i often use flashlight. I can't do this in Invasion. I have to resort to this puny little light. This sucks, as i can't carry a weapon at the same time. This really ticks me off, why on earth have this?!

Actually I think Heart of Evil is the first (and good) mod to have rocket grunts. Though it wasn't Black Mesa, it was vietnam (with zombies).

I have an Idea Rocket Grunts should be as slow as Hwgrunts and their rockets should be a little more powerful to take out multiple enimes

and also a AT4 model for the rocket grunt would be cool :)

They should be slower, but not as slow as the HWgrunt.

And it IS the AT4 model, it's just that the half-life w_model suck :p

Currently there is no Opposing Force Grunt version carrying the rocket launcher. Only the human grunt.

Not sure what we'd do with the HWGrunt.

Give him an option to shoot incendiary rounds. with every hit there's a small explosion. the perfect solution for garg killing and anything else in between. give em a longer time to warm up though for balance issues.

with "hwgrunts" i dindn't mean to give them rpgs, but when i thought about if the rocket grunts would have opfor versions, i realised that an opfor version of the hwgrunt was also lacking.

It always happens with all RPGS, the rocket "Spawns" outside the RPG than goes after the target, wich is wierd.

Sniper can you fix the RPG shooting? Like in TFC, the Rocket goes straightforward outside the RPG, it doesnt "spawn" outside then gets fired. Hard to explain. But just load Half Life and fire a RPG shot then load TFC and test it.

He will be in 3.5, why would they take him out? And ure not a mapper right? If u are, u should practice more, cuz the map maker decides the Health of all monsters in his map, if he doesn't wanna have custom health, it will be set to the default for that monster.

Meh, I'm sure that the community will provide custom content to address the issues of Op4 grunts and HD models etc.; but on the subject of the actual RPG grunt, they do look like they'll kick some serious ass.

I can see that as an enemy they're not the kind of thing a mapper would use excessively, because players wouldn't stand a chance. And to think that not so long ago I was told that RPG grunts would be impractical :p

Either way HL2 already has rocket "grunts", the rebels use RPG's so won't be that hard for HL2

All you have to do is replace the Mp5 with a p_rpg model, then remove his mp5 shooting animations and set him up in a map as having 9mmar grenades. Then in the game, he can't shoot his mp5 so he launches nades all the time. Looks better then you'd expect, actually...

yea i made that for my ww2 map. a guy that cant move and cant shoot 9mmar but he is in a kneeling position and fires a mortar( the nade launcher)

also thisd be perfect in my ww2 map for enemies using panzerschreks and maybe a scenario where you have to protect an NPC grunt with a bazooka (RPG) who will take out a tank if hes alive (duh)

i saw the video... it was very very awesome..

But somehow they are overwhelming powerful as enemies...i have some little ideas...

1) They can only fire a little amount of rockets. Standard 5 rockets.

2) Make them able to pick up ammo and choose the better gun. Which is ability to drop and pick up things.

3) Rocket grunts should be slower in their firing rate and walking speed.

1 + 2 + 3 = Intelligent grunts.

(go down long wallway, turn, long hallway, turn, long hallway, turn, long hallway, hide) if it fires a rocket, and all the hallways are perfectly clear, will it be able to navigate the rocket through the whole hallway and hit you directly if your standing still? :wtf:

No. It must have a line of sight to you. Even though the hallways are clear and transparent, the laser dot will stop at your last known location, which would be right at about the first turn you make, while running down the hallway.

Then people won't play those maps. Mappers already have loads of ways to mess up their maps. The good ones learn to avoid them.

How about a turrets that fires rockets, and then the grunts could direct the rockets with red laser pointers?

Across the map and stuff? Kind of like cruise missiles, but not really.
