UPDATED 2/22/12

Due to popular demand. Final version will be uploaded to files page. Transferred SC2.1/3.0 models and sounds to be compatible with 4.6.

The 4.5 and 4.6 Low-Def models update was created by Tuesday's Avenger and the orignal 4.07 patch was created by WAR_Nuker.


Unzip the LD model patch to C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\(screenname)\half-life\SvenCoop to sample the LD model patch in 4.6. Unzip the HD patch to the same location to undo.

Same with the sound patches. Unzip the sound_old patch to C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\(screenname)\half-life\SvenCoop to get Sven 3.0 sounds in 4.6. Unzip the sound_45 patch to the same location to undo. (Sound patch updates were apparently not needed for 4.6)

Side note: This patch may not increase fps, which really isn't the goal here anyways. If you are on an older system, your fps issues may be due to the particle engine. Set cl_particles_max to 0 in the console to turn off the particle engine. I prefer to set it to 5 to preserve some of the muzzleflashes.

9/7/10 - Matched a correction made in the HD 4.5 models for the Barney and Soldier zombies by giving them proper hitbox assignments. Previously these enemies had "0" for all hitboxes, meaning hits on any part of the monster were all equivalent.
9/7/10 - Compiled the LD worldmodels into w_svencoop_pickup.mdl to comply with 4.5's merged pickup submodel system.
9/7/10 - Copied 4.5's Snark Nest (already a tweaked version of the original LD model) so that it would "walk" and chase targets at the proper speed.
9/23/10 - Fixed rgrunt bodygroups.
9/23/10 - Fixed 9mmhandgun reload speed.
9/23/10 - New m16 using official HD 9mmar model by Valve.
9/23/10 - UVW fixes.
9/23/10 - Added LD replacement for opfor knife.
12/24/10 - Updated HD sound backup for new 4.5 sounds.
2/22/12 - Cleansuit sci heads are now all LD.
2/22/12 - Slight cleansuit sci reskins to reflect eerie lighting present on original OpFor face texture.
2/22/12 - Slight animation fixes for bodyguard.
2/22/12 - New standard LD mp5, shotgun, m16, and minigun p_ models.

Thanks for this war_nuker! This is quite a feat of work you have taken upon yourself and you help the fraction of the community who prefer the low def models.

Anyone who is having performance issues like unexplainable lag or frame rate might want to download this to see if it helps at all. Especially on unexplainable lag/framerate-prone maps like sectore_2.

I have grown fond of some of the new weapon and monster models. I may keep a few of those...

actually the sniper ammo is part of w_svencoop, so I guess that's unfixable

op4 knife - true, I should update that.

SAW ammo is exactly the same as the original from OpFor.

Sniper ammo is changed, but it's still from the LD ammo. Seeing as picking up sniper ammo gives you 5 rounds - i.e. 1 clip - having it's model represent 2+ clips didn't make much sense.

Headcrab - Huh, wow, I guess the LD crab was never included in the original pack. O_o Sorry about that.

...didnt know there was LD/HD headcrab. thought it was all the same. hmmm.

bullsquids seem to teleport around like houndeyes did in the previous sven version, but I'm not sure if it has something to do with the LD model.

Reload animations have issues. MP5's reload animation doesn't even happen. Two different ways to replicate animation glitches with some of the other weapons:

1) Hold primary fire down and just press reload key every second
2) Press reload and hold down fire (to get it to shoot as soon as it is fully reloaded)

I noticed that for at least one weapon.. I can't remember which now.. the reload in v4.5 seems to be faster than before (and the old animation is too slow).

EDIT: Hornetgun's firing sound doesn't seem to work 95%+ of the time. I managed to hear it play once or twice, but for the most part it doesn't play?

Also, I find that Sven Co-op is, at least in my case (with my low-end lappy), Sven Co-op is more playable with this pack. :) Not "a bit" or "slightly more," but also not "way more" or "definitely," but in-between-these-playable. :P

I did not notice a framerate increase.. I mean, it probably increased a little, but when it comes to playing alone through maps and fighting lots of enemies, the framerate isn't as bad as it was before.

EDIT: I suppose the better way to say it is that my lappy can "handle the game more/better" with this pack.

I found a very minor issue: the m16 texture in the w_svencoop_pickup should have transparency enabled.

And um, the 4.5 v_m16a2 has over 1000 less polies than the LD one, and the p_ is over 3k less, lol...

Even so, good work, guys!

Either of those, or just leave it out altogether. Using an M16 from another mod doesn't make sense if it's actually higher-poly.

Otherwise things might not work the same.

- The missing reload animation appears to be a 4.5 issue, not an LD pack issue - I was able to recreate it using both the LD and the default models, playing on both my own listenservers and online dedicated servers.

- The Glock needs to have its reload animation sped up slightly.

Another update - the new Robogrunts have a Head submodel group that is throwing off the weapon assignment.

How much lower-poly is it? Ignoring the difficulty of re-animating everything, by the time you added the grenade launcher, it may not be much more low-def than the normal SC M16 with low-def hands.

Both go together very well, and plus the fact that it was made by Valve. :P

I wouldn't think a grenade launcher would add very many polies to it; just look at the LD MP5's grenade launcher (that's pretty low-poly, right?).

EDIT: I do miss the MP5's ability to fire grenades. :(

probably going to take the official valve HD 9mmar and modify it. it may be labeled as HD, but in comparison to our m16 it looks LD. it also has the attached m203 so i wont have to add it...just need to animate it.

Take the 9mmAR LD model, remove the grenade barrel. Use that for MP5.

FYI am looking to set up HD weapons with ambient_impact's HD opfor hands first for 4.6. then after that we will have LD version ready and available. for now i will add fire_cube's LD knife with hev hands model to the pack.

Well, it's not that noticeable while playing, but if you look at the weapon when reloading it looks strange.

Bug Report:
cleansuit_scientist.mdl uses the HD Einstein head, instead of the LD one. :clean:

EDIT: Here's a fix, so you don't have to bother with it.

that only really matters with NPCs i believe.

similarly, bullsquid doesnt seem to warp on dedicated servers. cant reproduce. they behave the same as regular HD bullsquids.

probably a small nitpick, but perhaps you could add the m4a1's gunfire aswell (the sound from the HL1 HD pack)

well the hl1 "hd" pack actually mostly looked and sounded like shit, so it might not be too far fetched lol. this currently uses counter strike m4 sounds.

and im not sure if theres anything i can do about the sprites (clueless), but that does bring an interesting point to sprites in general. a lot of the sprites were updated since 3.0, so maybe theres a way to bring back the old ones.

The blueshift assaultrifle replaces the svencoop m16 in this pack, so you might aswell know what you're talking about before posting.


and im not sure if theres anything i can do about the sprites (clueless), but that does bring an interesting point to sprites in general. a lot of the sprites were updated since 3.0, so maybe theres a way to bring back the old ones.

Deleting the old sprite files reverts to half-life1's default content, that's how I fixed mine. The best you could do is actually add the old files in your pack so they simply overwrite the newer files (in this case gargeye1.spr)

thats what im talking about. it would be a pain to set up. took me about a month or so of work to set up the opfor hands pack. your request would probably take about the same amount of time if not longer. but yes it is possible to do. im just not going to be the one to do it.

alternatively you can learn to mess with models and animations and do it yourself.

thumb through the threads. theres a lot. start by trying to make a simple model like a ball and see if you can make a working .mdl file. would be worthwhile to learn yourself, so you can make whatever your heart desires.

There isn't much that needs to be changed, except a few things around the edges. I have fixed a few things for my own personal use which should probably get added into the main LD pack as well (such as fixing the stutter in the bodyguard walk animation, among others).

I'll talk to WAR about another release, but in the meantime - the current LD pack should work almost perfectly with 4.6. Most of the model changes were aesthetic / animation improvements to the default HD weapons, and if you were ok with the LD guns before you'll still be fine with them now. The sound pack works fine as well, the only thing to keep in mind is not to replace the 'bodyguard' sound folder or sentences.txt - assuming you want to hear the dulcet tones of JPolito's voice acting. And you do.

(I've essentially pasted all the files in my /models/ folder that weren't specific to a map - i.e. anything floating in the models folder but not in a subfolder - back into 4.6, and nothing seems to be giving me issues. I will report back here if I encounter any. If for some reason you have kingpin.mdl already in svencoop/models, DO NOT replace the version installed by 4.6)

We will need to check on that hgrunt_sniper model, and see what that's used for and make an LD version of it.

for tor i was thinking just reducing polys. make it look more generic so it fits in with the other LD models. that type of thing.

The animation fix for the bodyguard was just a matter of tweaking the walk animation (there is a noticeable stutter in the weapon arm in the walk sequence that always annoyed me) and a few similar issues in the shooting animations; I believe I also added the LD minigun model as well.

I had some spare time, so I cobbled together an LD model patch for 4.6; this is not an 'official' LD pack release, but feel free to download this set and try it out.

Changes:

Cleansuit Sci:
- All scientist heads now LD
- Slight reskins to reflect eerie lighting present on original OpFor face texture

Bodyguard:
- Slight animation fixes
- Now uses new standard LD mp5 / shotgun / minigun

Hgrunt (HL):
- Now uses new standard LD mp5 / shotgun / m4

Hgrunt (OpFor):
- Now uses new standard LD mp5 / m4

Massn:
- Now uses new standard LD mp5 / m16

Robogrunt:
- Now uses new standard LD shotgun / m4

Weapons:

please explain, as this might be useful for an LD pack update. i suspected it might have to do with differing skeletons but wasnt sure. this happens on a handful of custom maps that use custom versions of old models.

Well I wanted to see if it works before saying where the problem may be but afaik the hgrunt01 02 and 03 models are the problem.

I don't know whats exactly causing it but in most cases when I deleted the $sequencegroupsize 64 entry from the .qc it helped to get rid of that animation error. There was some combine grunt model a few years ago that had the same problem and after I made that change it worked fine.

I also made sure $externaltextures is gone but I don't know if thats necessary I just hate having a lot of files for one particular model :D

This is correct, by the way. The easiest way to solve it would be to compile the model as a single mdl file without 01.mdl etc. (Separate textures are fine, though not sure they're useful for anything in this case)

whoops, will fix.

I think if you go to svencoop\models\player folder you can find the player model called helmet, which is the HEV model.

delete the helmet folder, make a copy of dm_helmet folder, and rename the copied folder to helmet. then go inside the folder and change the two file names to helmet. that should do the trick. been out of the loop but I think helmet was switched to HD in the most recent release.

Is there any chance of a version which uses the Half-Life HD pack weapons/models?
I realized that the Sven Co-op shotgun and pistol e.t.c have faster/different animations to the default Half-Life weapons and I have no idea how to shorten the shotgun animation or how to speed up the pistol reload (although I do have MilkShape if that is what you use)
any tips on how to make my own?

This thread is certainly old, and I'm not sure if anyone even comes here anymore. But I did make a hack for this pack.
Added a scaled version of CS 1.6's SG552 ACOG to the LD MP5. I also added the M16a2 heat shield to the "ld m16" model(Which in this pack is actually an M4)
I am using Romka's old m16 models for w_ and p_ m16 models, and I hacked my own LD MP5 with a scope p and w models. But before I do anything I thought I'd make an account and ask here before I post em. Anyone interested.. or here at all?

Forgive me if they're not very good, they were made to just "get the job done" so to speak. I guess the fact they're supposed to be LD gave me some wiggle room in that respect.

I've included v_ and p_ models, as well as the SMDs and textures for the w_ models(So you can import them into your own w_svencoop_pickup)

Edit : Forgot to mention, Romka gets credit for the heat shield model, p_ and w_ models for the m16.

I also applied my Mp5 hand fix because the default Mp5 left hand is awful.

The HD shogun appears to be modeled after the irl SPAS12 which is both pump action as well as semi-automatic.

The HD pack on the main page is not intended to be used with Sven Co-op 5.0. If you want to revert back to HD, verify the integrity of Sven's game cache on Steam. That will restore the HD content that you want.

It has one issue though.
The Heavy weapons Grunt has a sidearm now for when he needs to dash away when hurt, and the model in the pack doesn't include a model or animations for it. At least functioning ones.
Thanks for the rest though, woulda been a pain to fix em myself.

In addition to what Crack said, it appears that both the HECU and Black Ops Apache, as well as the Black Ops Osprey, have a HD model in Sven Coop 5.0. Care to update the fix so that it has all three of these aircraft converted to LD? Thanks.

Oh, and also, I noticed that Evil Otis is in HD, too, so he'll need his LD alternative (unless that was already addressed in the fix above).

I'll get to work on these issues soon.

Evil Otis SHOULD be fixed with the latest update. Otis and Evil Otis did not have HD models in SC 4.8 but they do now so I provided the model from Opposing Force. I also made my own Evil Otis texture, it shouldn't look too different from original Evil Otis textures.

I think if I want to continue working on this, I'll need to start porting up models from SC's earlier versions instead of making my own, so downloading older releases to do that will be the next course of action.

Please inform me of any additional issues you find and I will try my best to fix them.

By the way, you can install this pack by placing it into svenco-op/svencoop_addons instead of sven co-op/svencoop in order to not have to replace anything. Just delete the files when you're done and it'll auto revert without any re-installation! Might want to change the readme :)

More bugs.
Some of them subtle.
The grunts, both Rgrunts and Hgrunts, sometimes use the wrong gun model.
Furthermore, Rgrunts sometimes don't play the correct die animation, and instead start a walk cycle when dead. Rgrunts also use Mp5 firing sounds no matter what gun they're using, M16 or MP5.
Edit : Also, sometimes the skin color of a grunt's body and head won't match. Black head on white bodies or vice versa.
Edit 2 : Lastly, this isn't much of a problem, more a request. Could someone convert the Op4 grunt models to work as hgrunts/rpg grunts too? So they're not distinguishable from one-another? I ask because a lot of maps mix them and they clash pretty bad.

So I'm using the up to date Low-Def model pack (Nintendostar) and it seems to cause Sven Coop to silently crash on the map crystal right at the starting area.
I tried it without the pack, map works fine. Then with the pack, it crashes.

It also crashed for me on another map, but can't remember the name of it but you teleport into a small room, double wooden door infront, vent/hole above it. It crashed as I was going through the vent/hole, which of course blocked other players. :(

On that map I think I remember there being an Otis on the other side of the door. Also on crystal there's a dead Otis just in front of the starting area, by the chair.
I tried to see if Good Otis and Bad Otis would crash on stadium4 but they seem to work fine there.

Anybody else have this Otis problem?

Edit: Little update, Still crashes with the new Sven Coop update, however, I removed the Low-Def otis.mdl and otisf.mdl and used the Sven-Coop models instead. crystal seems to work fine again now. Have not crashed since.

So, I did some stuff.
I changed the default Hgrunt to use the Op4 grunt mesh, so they match for the most part.
However; op4 grunts have green helmets, half-life grunts have camo helmets that match their fatigues to have a subtle way to tell them apart.(Also a callback to HL1 standard grunts)
I couldn't quite fix the issue where heads sometimes mis-matched skin colors, so I just made all the grunts white.
Also, Sven co-op added support for hgrunts to use the sniper rifle, so I added the LD sniper rifle to his weapon group. The lack of which could've been causing weapon errors.
Friendly and enemy versions included.

Sorry for the delay, I got a big batch of models to include in the next release but my friend has been busy with some work so we haven't got the last bit done as soon as I thought. There'll be an update soon, promise. Beyond the batch of models, there's some minor issues with yet a few more missing LD item pickups, which is something I'll work on within the next day.

I don't think, this is not possible without editing dll.

At least you need to add a cvar that you can change HUD Color on Console. But still you need to edit DLL for this :S

You could edit the sprites themselves to change the color, but the default color will still be applied over it.

Every other legacy model works fine on 5.0, except for otis.mdl. If you are having crash issues while using this mod, remove the model.

I made a personal fix a few days ago, but I suppose I could upload it here for users that don't want to go through the trouble of searching through 276 different models for one trouble making file.

Mind you this is a very lazy fix, but it'll have to do until I can find a workaround or Sven gets an update. This pack contains the legacy models, but with Otis.mdl removed; he'll look awfully out of place next to the original models, but the game will at least be playable.

That's so strange you guys living problem with Otis.mdl. I saw couple of threads. And after installed LD pack wanted give a try to Otis and it seems fine to me on LAN or Public Servers. I didn't had any issues with that.

I think it depends on his dead position or which map.
The map from my screenshot is airport.bsp (at the start there is a dead Otis)

Also maybe the Otis from LD can colide with the Sven's one? Because i didn't replace the original one on the svencoop folder. I did used the svencoop_addon for the LD one.

Are you sure? Because when I moved the original models into the game, they had the "Otis glitch," and made me crash whenever I looked at them.

I will update the pack right now, with all of the LD weapons from the previous packs.

edit: I added some missing weapons and default orange H.E.V weapons from the original pack so you don't have to convert them from blue to orange H.E.V arms, I have a folder containing blue arm/handpak/forearm textures in in lots of different dimensions, I have also uploaded this folder into the pack.

I have also included a dispenser that I created for TFC, feel free to use it in a map or mod, I really don't care that much about TFC models, the game is old and people still share models to the public.

You seem to have forgotten some other weapons, displacer, 9mmhandgun, rpg those are the only view models missing also I enjoy how beta or alpha they look if you can keep doing that it would be awesome.

I know most of the creators of the models, I think that I only forgot 2, that are Valve and the Sven Co-op team. (updated the credits with these credits too)

If I'm going to do that, I'll ulpload it to any model related threads on Sven then, I don't any of the models to get overused, reposted and edited just like I did but differently.

I've been wanting to share my models to someone for 2 months after I got the hang on Milkshape I started to do alot of models every month, and right now I see that I was getting into detail into this, but from now on I'll only post stuff about the packs.

I notice the shotgun is still missing, that's all that's left, everything else seems fine unless you plan on making the arms blue and making them more alpha or beta like? I really like it for that fact really.

Making the arms blue won't be a big deal because I got a folder full of the textures.

Also, if you (anybody, there's a reason for this thread :P) got the Human Grunt skin color glitch that makes the grunts only have the white textures, I'm giving this little texture for anyone that has the skin glitch for the human grunt.

edit: You'll have to convert the image into .bmp for you to use it, sadly, the Sven forums don't support .bmp formats...

I have also put an example about the skin glitch, test the models I've put into the .zip file on sven and you'll see that when the black face texture is used, it does not use the black arms, so you got to save the model with the texture I've put here and then It'll be at least a little bit correct.

So...a new Sven Co-op update has came out...the Heavy Weapons Grunt doesn't pick up his minigun (lack of minigun pick up animation) and They Hunger has gotten some new HD weapon models. (Someone could possibly making some LD They Hunger weapons?) Also, there are a few issues with the RPG Grunts in Stadium4, (no clue). Also, I have some Low-Def player models if anyone wants them.

GUYS! You won't believe this, but I've found a WORKING low-def Otis model! I found it in the Sven Co-op files, it's the one that's used for bm_sts, but it works! You can find it in Sven Co-op\svencoop\models\cards\ori along with some other low-def models!

Lookin' good so far, all I'd ask for is removing the Grenade Launcher from the MP5, since it has no use. Other than that though, pretty good.

For some reason instead of the LD worldmodels showing, the regular SC worldmodels appear (excluding the grenade)

Edit: The worldmodels held by me and other players are fine, but the dropped weapons dont have the custom models.
