Did you get any crash dumps after this happened? They should be located in Steam/dumps.

Also running XP
tried to start SC twice, here are the dump files: dumps.7z (https://www.dropbox.com/s/12cxseaxabay9q4/dumps.7z?dl=0)

PS: The bug fixes list looks great otherwise. (I have SC on another PC as well.)

These crash dumps are awfully small (59kB), it doesn't look like they contain enough information.

Starts for me in Win98 compatibility mode. However, server browser button doesn't work, it crashes while trying to load map and doesn't shut down properly after quitting.
Debugger console showed some things:

I don't understand a point of change VS and toolset version, because they have shit compatibility between each other.

Game libraries are now built with Microsoft Visual C++ 2015

Please try with higher OS. I don't think XP Supports Microsoft Visual C++ 2015. If it's even supports, im sure it'll be un-stable as hell. At least try Windows 7 . Your PC specs good enough to handle Win7.

Good idea!

I am sure because Microsoft Download Windows Images (https://www.microsoft.com/de-de/software-download/windows7). <- Just is serious and honest! Scroll down! Put your key from Windows XP CD or DVD than you get Windows 7.
If you have Windows XP Pro => Windows 7 Pro
Windows 7 Home => Windows 7 Personal Home or Home ( I don't know that )

I find good reason because Windows XP hasn't support so that Windows 7 has not problem with many runtimes and redisturbables

PS: Do not reinstall! Simple put your image to dvd and try dvd is okay than put to drive than you click install Windows 7 than it will upgrade from XP to 7 than if you want roll back than you can not play SC 5.0 Than you need stay to Windows 7 than remove C:\Windows.old ( ca 17 to 20 gb ) Using Disk clean manager (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/how-do-i-remove-the-windows-old-folder) by Windows 7 tools Than you can try to play SC 5.0 and enjoy your Windows 7

We did pick the XP compatible platform toolset (v140_xp) when compiling the game libraries, but they don't appear to be as XP compatible as they suggest.

The economic situation of my country is in critical condition with inflation exceeds 1100 % the simple fact of getting food is something difficult , I find it impossible to buy better hardware for my computer . It is better to leave this issue up here , you just make fun of my misfortune

Probably a contributory factor yes, though I suspect some of them outright refuse to use Steam anyway.

Haha, why so serious?

The fact is we're going to have to stop supporting Windows XP indefinitely at some point. We've already dropped support for Windows 2000. It's not our fault if you're unable to upgrade, but we're not going to delay progression forever because a minority of players can't (or won't) upgrade their operating system.

It's been dropped from official support for 2 years now, and other big names are starting to stop supporting it (and Windows Vista) too. The specific reason for the crash is that the Windows XP/2003 kernel does not support initialising thread-local static variables. This is a huge problem for a multi-threaded application, of which there weren't many in the XP days. The only work-around is to disable thread safety in the game libraries, which is also a huge tradeoff. More details on this issue (https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/1789709/visual-c-2015-runtime-broken-on-windows-server-2003-c-11-magic-statics)

You also have to consider that some third party libraries that provide features that we need might drop XP support, forcing us to either use an older (and possibly insecure) version, not use it at all, or replace it. At some point we are going to have to drop support, whether we want to or not.

This will become more likely as time goes on simply because targeting XP means you can't use some features. Vista introduced new features that can't be emulated on XP, so if we need such a feature, whether in our own code or due to a library needing it, we won't have a choice.
