There are already many great M16-Like conversions.
    (Weine's LR300, Sushi's M4, etc.)

    That's one reason I don't try to convert M-16s.
Another reason is I like many types of firearms except M-16s
    (I especially like russian firearms.)

I'm a Russian firearms guy myself, with an AKM, AK-74N and AK-103 currently in the collection.

I'm always on the look out for good AK models, although I find that most of the time even on exceptional models the receiver details are pretty far off. This one isn't too bad, with the one thing mainly being that the receiver top-cover appears have a weird contour on the left side of the receiver.

It should be just a straight across line. Also, the handguards are a little more AK-47-ish then AK-74-ish. The AKS-74U has deep finger grooves in both the upper an lower handguard.

All of these things are of course not the fault of NovaRain, but rather the original modeler.

This is a good replacement without a doubt.

The AN-94 is a pretty advanced piece of work, but in truth the AK-74 in it's original form creates so little recoil that the whole recipricating barrel/impulse thing is almost overkill, IMO.

It is also not nearly as resistant to fouling as the original AK design.

Gotta ask, you say you have an ak74n, what does the N stand for, or did you just type N instead of M?

N is the designation given to fixed stock AKs with optics rails riveted to the side of the reciever.

I haven't got any pics of mine available at the moment, but I modeled it to look almost exactly like this one, only newer with an unworn finish and as-new Russian laminate wood furniture.

I'll tell you it took some doing to find all the correct Russian laminate. The stuff is very beautiful and also very collectible in the states.

My rifle was built by a custom builder on a Russian Saiga receiver, as that is the only way to get a real Russian receivered rifle in the US.

    To AJjer_62nd:
    Thanks for the comment

It's impossible to collet firearms for me in my country, but one of my friends has some "99%" guns (only without firing pin, still illegal.)
    He has AKS-74U, MPi-AKS-74N, RPK,etc.
I bought some 5.45mm dummy cartridge from him.

    Anytime.

Also, what country are you from?

Some of the demilled weapons you can get in Europe and elsewhere are very desirable here as well. I'd love to have the 99% guns your friend has if only for the rare and collectible parts.

Genuine Russian parts are especially valuable in the States.

The original ones were. The US Army wanted the soldiers to have a gun that would withstand the conditions of Vietnam, and in concept, the M16 was an awesome gun, but they underestimated just how terrible Vietnam's climate was. So you had magazine jamming, misfires by the dozen, and a lot of wasted lives due to the massive failure the rifle became.

However, the revisions of the M16 were quite good, and some countries still use them for their second-line military units.

By the way, nice model NovaRain, any chances you could do a Galil of some sort?
