    TheBackdoor (Full Map)

    Hey everybody, it's been a while but here is my next map for Sven. THis is a totally new map and it is FAR FAR better than my first (The Compound) if anyone remembers playing it. I took all your advice, made this one bigger (much bigger) with a lot more variability and surprises and (I think) some awesome environments. I hope you enjoy. You can download it here--->

    Another realease by you. I really loved your map the compound so im downloading this one now. Will edit with comments when done.

    Hmmmm in the first area your w_poly is 1200. Didn't get to see anymore as i found it hard to complete this area (due to low FPS). Hmmm played through it now, the r_speeds improve later through the map. Its a fun map too play and i think the architechure is pretty good too. However i think (like n the compound) you didn't put enough (if any) ambient noises in.

    It's great to see mappers who really think theyve improved and stuff with their mapping skills. I'm going to play this tomorrow and i'll edit this with my thoughts

    Arcitecture is pretty good, placement good, textures are stretched in a couple places. Main problem with this map is your r_speeds, Man, 1,200+ w_polys, 52,000+ e_polys, yikes! Try here for some excellent help with r_speeds:

    dull, storyless walkthrough map. architecture is all okay but you havent thought about story or the gameplay.

    the doors later on just wont open and you end up stuck.

    okay if the doors wouldn't open you did something wrong or didn't go to the right door, my best guess is you used some kind of cheat or hax t oinstant kill an enemy or something, this creates a lot of issues with bots that trigger doors....and I thought I had plenty of story...did you read the opening? I appreciate critism when it's constructive but you look like you're shooting wholes in absolutely months of hard work, if people didn't do this stuff, YOU wouldn't have anything to rip apart.

    i didnt say it was crap i just say it wasnt very interesting. i mean theres nothing here i havent seen hundred times before in half life.
    there wasnt any cheating until we got stuck. have you tried getting other people to play test it, who dont know what to do in the map

    I had same problem with doors not opening. Quit at that point due to being stuck. Should be a little clearer on what we need to do or where we need to go next.

    Ok i played and got to the end without cheats. That apache boss was pretty damn cool. The map is good apart from the lack of ambient noises and amazingly high r_speeds.

    I like some stuff about this map, enemies at different heights makes gameplay interesting, the bridge scene was very cool, I like how the piece of the road comes down. Also the map is visually ok, theres some architecture and interesting areas, curved hallways, etc. But the textures all seem to be overstretched on the walls. and the lighting seems too bright and the lights on ceiling are a bit large. Another interesting thing was the layout of the map, theres loops and stuff so you can realize where u really are. It's a bit easy to get lost at first but you learn it eventually. Overall i liked the map except for a few things.

    I just went sp thru this map,

    Best Point:
    *brilliant "end of level boss" (erm .. well "apache boss above the broken bridge").
    Worst point:
    * Bland texturing.

    Funniest part:
    I loaded a rcbot (with no waypoint) because I got stuck with the doors at the beginning too..
    It went straight to the grill blasted it and opened up the vent pathway.

    I guess that means a braindead bot can figure out what to do on this map better than most of us :\

    Theres a leak in the map. As you come into the boss area; in the doorway facing the glass walkway across from that is a pipe, the back of the pipe has a huge map leak.

    pretty fun apart from the annyoing jumping puzzle in the end + fix that stupid skybox and leak lol

    Actually it can't be a leak due to the fact that the map doesn't (appear to) run full bright, which leaves me to believe he used a null texture in the wrong place.

    Ok, first off, not bad map. Was a bit too easy with all the AR grenades laying around and the AC cannons. I played it alone, with no cheats, and finished it quite easily.
    Enjoyed fighting the grunts and finding doorways to be shortcuts, my favorite thing = shortcuts doors instead of walking half a mile back to the action.
    Only real problem I saw was that somehow the Helicopter at the end got stuck in the mountain near the door that at the end which opens up when you destroy the copter. This caused weird noises as well. I managed to blow it up by shooting at a piece of it sticking out from the mountain.

    its a good idea to make sure each area is secured with the sky, instead of a big box, makes it more reliable

    we play this map a fair bit on our server, its great
