    sc_tetris 1.1

This is a new version of the sc_tetris series which I released some months ago. I was first going to wait until SC 3.5, but since we didn't get it yet, I release this as an xmas present.

This will replace the old sc_tetris content, so that might cause some problems for people trying to connect to servers running the updated version (Map differs error), so I hope they realize to look for the new version over here, and not just trying to delete the maps and download from server (other content has been modified too, like the wad and some models).

The package also includes the mushroom (sieni) and robogrunt (rgrunt) player models by JJ45 (by his request). The mushroom model was originally created for the tetris series, and was made into a player model later.

There are lots of minor updating, but also many major ones. Here's the changelog:

    • Replaced wall textures by new ones (red, green, yellow, purple, red, grey)
    • Added shortcuts
    • Improved architecture in boring places
    • Fixed overlapping brushes in sc_tetris6 (might have caused some problems)
    • Fixed outside elevator in sc_tetris1 so you can't get stuck under it
    • Added some monsters
    • Decreased health of all voltigores from 800 to 500
    • Increased the speed of controller balls
    • Reduced the amount of explosives in some places (balance)
    • Changed the laser turret inactive-on-shot time from 1 sec to 3 secs
    • Remade the controller boss in sc_tetris3
    • Increased the healing amount of grapple walls from 1hp/s to 5hp/s.
    • Added lots of cookies (hidden stuff), secrets and easter eggs (how many you can find?)

I might have forgotten something, but that's most of it.

If you find any bugs or anything that needs to be fixed, let me know. I'm going to edit this again for SC 3.5 when it comes out.

You can find some screenshots over here: http://a1win.pp.fi/ss/half-life/svencoop/sc_tetris/

    The new walls:

Please do not use +hook in these maps! It's a cheat like noclip or adjusting gravity. Even if the server was running HookMod, avoid using +hook yourself!

It's not really map related, but I don't think we should tell people how to do that

I really love this new version, and found no bugs in any of the maps at all.
I hope people who liked the old version will like this one too.

Just started playing the new version, was great up to the second level, crashed back to the desktop twice around the open area close to the end.

Couldnt come up with a definative reason why tho.

    Otherwise great job updating everything!

    ***Edit***

Must have been a fluke, hasnt crashed again. Love the eggs! LOL

    Re: sc_tetris 1.1

Naw it's not just you. In the original thread I said the maps can't be played alone. There are buttons you need to push together and places where you need to boost each other and such.

The entity count is very high so if you spawn too much new entities like drop lots of satchels or ammo from your weapons, the maps might crash.

    Review

    --- Introduction ---

    "Very innovative" - Red Falcon
"OMG THIS MAP ROX" - Danny
"Reminds me when i was a kid" - Super Aligator
"I like the new textures :D" - Thumper

While asking players about their opinion of the TETRIS series, almost every player told "the map rocks". A1WIN bringed back to us our childhood and that was maybe not an easy job to do.

But all we can do is to congrats A1Win for the enormous work and efforts he put in this map!
    Congrats man !

    --- Review & Critics ---

    Architecture : 10/10

In the spirit of Tetris it was good to not detail the map and let it blocky, blocks are the main things of tetris and you thinked right A1Win !

    Ambience : 9/10

No comments except some rooms are a little empty.

    Texturing : 10/10

Those new textures rocks man !

    Lighting : 9/10

The lighting was nice, but not exceptionnal some colours would be cool.

    Layout : 10/10

    Monster Usage : 9/10

You used almost all the time the same monsters !!!
Grunts, Blackops, Shock Troopers, this is too repetitive but feeling in the map.

    Item Placement : 7/10

The items are nicely placed, trough a bit too much grouped.

    Innovation : 10/10

Ahh, i was waiting for this part. Your map is really unique in the terms of innovation From the mine blocks to the little lasers, it was really fun.

    Nice job :)

    Teamwork : 8/10

The cooperation was very cool in the map ! Trough a bit laming at a time, some single man parts would be cool, like a hole in the floor with some platform that the players have to use a wheel to make it go forward, like secretcity 3/4 (don't remember witch one haves it)

    Gameplay : 7/10

Repetition of going forward shooting this to do this push the button to make this do this.

    Overall : 9/10

Exept some critics, the map is very nice ! We can see that you worked hard on the map.
    Good Job !

    Re: sc_tetris 1.1

    Thanks for the comments.

The lighting is actually colored, but some of the colors are too light (near white). Here's the .rad file:

    tetris5b4 128 255 192 400
    tetris5b4x 0 255 255 200
    tetris6b1x 255 32 32 400
    tetris7b1 192 128 255 400
    +0tetris_gg 255 64 64 400
    +1tetris_gg 255 64 64 400
    +2tetris_gg 255 64 64 400
    +0tetris_but3 255 255 255 200
    +Atetris_but3 255 255 255 200
    xeno_grapple 32 128 255 200
    xeno_grapplered 255 64 64 200

I guess I should change them to be more colorful. I'm going to update this for 3.5 anyway.

I'll think about the monster placement, too. At least shocktroopers are way too overused. I'm not going to add all the monster in, though, at least not zombies and gonomes (although there is one zombie at the moment, try to find it ;) I guess I should put bullsquids in, though, and replace some shocktroopers, maybe with them and alien slaves, or something.

I've improved the architecture from the first version, and I guess I'll still improve it. The first version had lots of dull corridors and rooms which I've remade. I know, there still are some but I'll try to fix them eventually.

There are lots of hidden items everywhere. Some require boosting, some a bit jumping skills and some thinking. And luck. Those that are stacked together are just the ones that balance the gameplay, to prevent it being to difficult. The ones hidden can make it easier and more fun :P

About innovation: don't forget the gravity generators ;)

    Re: sc_tetris 1.1

I just tried it on a listen server with a bunch of plugins that have precache and it started fine...

If you are running amx or amxmodx I would say try disabling some of the plugins in you're listen server...

But if you are running it without an admin module then I would say maybe try a few things...

    Update you're video card drivers...

Backup you're config delete it and restart SvenCoop it will make a new config file...

I have noticed a lot of times stuff gets saved to the config file and sometimes causes problems when running a listen server...

    Re: sc_tetris 1.1

There are too many entities in tetris2 which makes it crash sometimes. I'll try to fix it for the SC 3.5 version.

I guess that on a listenserver the server needs to precache more entities because it has to handle both client and server stuff... or something. Anyway it should get fixed if I remove enough entities from the map. Stupid limits...

are there any differences besides the wall texture/model edits? (that is to say.. is the level layout still the same? or have the maps been considerably altered?)

    Read the first post

The maps have been modified quite a bit. However, this update is almost a year old already.

Holy I didn't even know this map existed, even though I started Sven a looooooooong time ago. This map is the best thing to ever come to Sven.
