    Richard_Boderman

    This map is based on the April Fools prank that occured in 2005, where Richard Boderman took over Svencoop. It was first made by JJ45 on April 1st 2005, then given to hydeph who did not succeed in finishing the map, then given to me to finish. During the time it took to release, it was given to Puchi to fix several strange errors and problems.

    This map should have been released around April 1st, 2006, however JJ45 and JPolito decided to make massive changes to the map, which ended with a much better looking and a much better running finished product.

    It took a long time, but it's finally done.

    The goal of the map is for the players to defeat the army of Richard Boderman. The army consists of members who were active during the time of the Svencoop takeover. The players are given allies to help them fight, however, the allies definitely can not fight off the overwhelming strength of the Boderman army on their own.

    The players will have to raid two caverns in the center rock formation where major members and developers of Svencoop are being held captive. These members can be freed in order to help fight the Boderman army.

    There is also a huey helicopter circling the cliffsides that lands at a red target whenever it passes by. The players can use a combination of the minigun which respawns nearby and their own weapons to help weaken the soldiers on the inner and outer cliffsides.

    In order to activate the final boss sequence, the players must defeat 270 monsters. This usually takes around fifteen minutes.

    Defeat the army of Richard Boderman and take back SvenCoop!

    Credits:

    JJ45 - Made the map first and worked with me to improve the hell out of it.
    JPolito - Made many changes to the map, took charge of beta testing, and eventually finished the map. Also wrote this thread.
    Puchi - Fixed thousands of errors.
    hydeph - Came up with many awesome ideas for the map.

    in case you're wodering about the performance - its way better than it used to be.
    it also gets better later during the game when a few of the npcs are killed

    That's how you can find where you respawn, that is if I made you a squadmaker.

    A lot of active people on the forums now are not in the map. I mostly just included people who posted in the april fools thread back in 2005.

    Also, the developers and major members of the forums and IRC may be in the prisons but are not included in the list.

    I remember that April Fools prank. It kinda scared me that an idiot was gonna take over Sven Co-op.
    Though this years April Fools joke scared me more because I was worried we might lose Sven Co-op!
    This map looks good, I'll be back to comment again and rate it as soon as I play it!

    Played it, and it was fun. I can't see how the outdoor architecture could have been impvoed without murdering your r_speeds (flat cliffs!!!11~), but I think the indoor cavern stuff could have really benefited from a little more love.

    Gameplay was simple and fun, as well Even with 7 bots running around the map with me, I think I died about 7-12 times. Difficulty was just right, but on a big server (Cozmic, Cafe of Rabid Snarks, Arthur) this map is going to get wooped :O

    For the record, I really enjoyed it, but the the flat cliffs, walls, and cieling was real eyesore after a while. Gameplayw as great, and the boss stuff was done well too. Richard Boderman, though, could have benefited from another 10k hp I wooped his sorry ass single handedly, without dying.

    I love this map. Nice setting, nice gameplay, origional concept, and using the minigun in the Huey is awesome

    .ZIP files have been updated to included the .res and motd files.

    Anyone who has downloaded this file already should either redownload from the above mirrors or download the below .rar file and extract the two files into their maps folder.

    fps doesnt improved that much in that area, but 2fps are still better.
    also you notice not the whole map, including the caves, is rendered which also is a bit less w_poly in r_speeds.

    Very nice and original concept. I played it tonight but it was too late for me to get to the end boss right now, by myself. Although I do have a few comments

    I am curious, wouldn't it have made more sense to base it off of the Sven Discount Cooperative storyline since it was closer to this story line.

    Sven's Discount Cooperative comes in "captures" the Sven Coop website and screws over the lead developers of Sven Coop.

    Anyways, when playing the map I kept on getting killed by the same god damned enemy. PD KC!!!!!! 4 times. Not something like pinning me in a corner or something, but random times. My first 3 deaths were by him... In a row!!!! Is he still active because even though I don't know him, I think I actually hate him!!!!

    Now back to the topic at hand. Although the concept was really cool I can't help shake the feeling that you guys put more work into the concept than the map itself. All of the textures seem rather plain and architexture is nothing to phone home about . things like hills and such seem rather out of place. I dont remember seeing my name anywhere, so either you stuck to high ranking members of the SC community or all the little people you just made it a 1 in a 100 chance to see any of. Oh well.

    Don't let my review let you down or anything, I had alot of fun on this map, looking for familiar names. Tomorrow, I hope to get a full team togethor to play this with me so I can see the endgame boss.

    It was supposed to be released shortly after April 1 2005, because that's when the Richard Boderman April fools joke was born. The project was dragged on and on because there was a lack of time, lots of gameplay to balance, as well as r_speed issues to solve. Add to that changing the theme to Sven's Discount Co-operative... Well, we could have changed it, but nobody brought up such a suggestion, and everybody probably thought that Richard Boderman is cooler. But the sequel might have something that involves Sven's Discount Co-operative.

    The kind of layout the map has and the amount of NPCs running around it makes it pretty much impossible to add details to the cliffs etc. I and iirc hydpeh tried to improve the cliffs a few times, but it just dropped the average FPS.

    Also, the members who were picked are people who were active back in April 2005. A few names might have been changed since that, but we didn't bother to reselect the names for 2006. After all, one should think this map is set in 2005. I don't know what you mean with high ranking people, but our picks were mostly people who we know, active regulars, moderators and a few team members. There's a much bigger chance than 1/100 to see yourself in the map, but it's just impossible to add every single community member there.

    But I'll keep your name on my mind when making the sequel.

    A note to all the people who are not in the map:

    Indeed it would have been impossible to include everyone, however, I mostly just adjusted the names to people who were active in the "Sven is leaving" thread and people who were active members at the time, on the forums and in IRC.

    Also, it is almost impossible to improve anything in this map without destroying your precious frames per second. Sure, the caves could have used it, but the outside was as good as it could possibly get.

    Well the thing I meant by higher ranking members was that I saw members like Turrican, Jpolito, etc alot. You know the most reputable members. I might not have payed as much attention to the others I guess.

    Yea I know that it was supposed to be released back than, but I guess it would have been alot of work to redo the names.

    how do you make a good map better?
    with some improvements
    detailed list what i did while got bored:
    • Fixed Nodegrid completly. NPCs are navigating way better now.
    • cfg and res revised a bit
    • Added Skillfile, in detail:
    • NPC Health now dependend on skill-level (1-3, 1 is normal skill)
    • Healthcharger possing 150 points, instead of 80
    • Healthkits healing 50 per pickup
    • Medkit heals faster (30 points)
    • Damage of Sniperrifle incrased (now actually quite well useable)
    • Damage of m203 grenade incrased
    • Damage of Boderman incrased to Instantkill. beware now.
    • Damage of guardians incrased.

    I killed you like 10 times in the map. But you just kept coming back!

    I liked this map! Kinda laggy at the beginning but then once you kill more npcs it gets better.
