    danger_of_collapse (part 1 of 5)

    DANGER OF COLLAPSE PART 1 WALKTHROUGH STYLE
    made by
    Silencer

    STORY
    This complex in the Arctic is controlled by an unknown organisation. Their members
    extorted the worlds best scientists and forced them to do research on the xen creatures
    here. As if that had not been fatal enough a group of the xen forces teleported themselves
    into this complex in order to free their friends. You and your team were sent here to clean
    up the mess.

    Probably a good candidate for the Best of Maps Showcase and the official Mappack for Sven Coop 3.5.
    The Map is much fun to play but sadly very short, because I would have been exceeding several
    limits otherwise. I will try to get the follow-up longer without a big loss of detail.

    Players needed: 2
    Players suggested: 3
    Suggested maximum amount of Players: 8

    Easter Eggs: 1 (Noclip Mode Needed)

    Version History
    - Initial Release.
    - Updated the Spawn Area. Please redownload.
    - Made a few changes after another few test runs.
    - R_Speeds fixes and small texture changes.
    - Swapped floating sentries with miniturrets, changed sky.

    Download (DO NOT RENAME):
    [Download URL Removed; map is included in Sven Co-op 4.0]

    Re: danger_of_collapse (part 1 of 5)

    That comment sucked.
    Seriously, you look at the first screenshot, say it is gay and be quiet about everything else...
    Like Sven Coop was about camping at the spawn area. Also, much stuff from everyday life looks boring, too.
    Um... Well, that just got me a bit angry somehow, sorry...

    Well, I didn't call your map gay at all, I'm just saying the start area is awfully boring and you should spice it up.

    Vary the height of the cliffs, perhaps add an inaccessible area behind the cliffs so it looks like this place is more than just a door leading into a secret lab in the middle of some frozen tundra.

    Re: danger_of_collapse (part 1 of 5)

    Well if I add one more cube to the map I am at the limits, same for making something vary,
    but I will try to do something anyways. Just do not encounter me with negative onewordcomments
    on a project I have been working on a bit for a half year and 60 hours the last 5 days at 2 PM.
    EDIT: Upgraded the Spawn Area. I had to increase maxnodesize from 512 to 576 to keep the map compileable.

    Re: danger_of_collapse (part 1 of 5)

    Played it with Nih, I love the way you made it so that two players have to do different things to open doors, etc. I don't think I've ever seen so many unique teamwork examples. The map was quite fun. The only thing that I found to be a problem was the onslaught of grunts in that one room outside the room with the glass tubes. Also, when facing the door to that room, the r_speeds are so high that my FPS were cut in half. You could consider attempting to use hint/skip brushes to fix it.

    Also, instead of using CRETECRUMBLE for the destroyed buttons next to doors, you could consider using GENERIC001, or a button texture with a darkened screen to show that it is inoperable. Electronics aren't made of concrete.

    Other than that, I anticipate seeing the other maps in this series.

    Nice work! I had the same problem with r_speeds in the spot that JPolito did but apart from that it is fun and challenging, I look forward to the rest.

    Re: danger_of_collapse (part 1 of 5)

    Thanks, part 2 is in progress and I am going to use trigger_setorigin alot. I need the controll over a server running 3.5 to test that one properly, since it is buggy in 3.0. However, for the usual testers there only is 3.5 client available, no server dlls. When I look at 3.5 I am mostly worried about the sounds. There are still many sounds missing or not loaded correctly and some that don't sound well. I have no idea if that can be changed in a week or months...

    Sniper may not have even touched trigger_setorigin since it was released in 3.0.

    Question Re: danger_of_collapse (part 1 of 5)

    In the Most recent SC 3.5 Changelog it says "- Improved trigger_setorigin entity." but there is no detailed information provided.

    I think it's just spy-warrior who renames maps. Not a good idea.

    Eh... You are still renaming the file. Just leave it the way it is when you get it out of the rar file.

    he always renames everything, i think he marks the different versions of maps but makes ppl need to download map again and they get their maps folder filled with all the earlier versions of same map. I find that really useless and when i had to download again and rename own Sewer Systematic: Toxicidia Sektor 516 Decompost, started to annoy

    Re: danger_of_collapse (part 1 of 5)

    The Problem is he does not understand us since he uses some gay translation program.
    I sent him the following PM and I hope he will understand it if translated:

    Hello - You are renaming names of maps you downloaded.
    Please do not rename maps because they have different versions,
    because players will have to download same map again and again if
    you do so and so they get their maps folder flooded with maps they
    will never play again. Next time when downloading a map, wait a few days
    until it becomes a final version
    before you use it on a public server. Thanks.
    Also, map series will not work if you rename, because at the end of one
    map it changes the map by mapname which can not work if you changed
    maps name. Also the maps resource files would need to be rewritten.
    Also do not use some bad translating programs to converse with these forums
    users in english. Learn the English language instead.

    Expressed in a pictorial metaphor:

    mapname.bsp -> mapname_b1.bsp = BAD
    mapname.bsp -> mapname_b2.bsp = BAD
    mapname.bsp -> mapname_b3.bsp = BAD
    mapname.bsp -> mapname_b4.bsp = BAD
    And so on ...

    mapname.bsp -> mapname_final.bsp = BAD

    there is no problem to employ the maps, when it are to re-elects. (renommer rename)

    there is a message, which indicates that the map should be re-elects. (renommer rename)

    It doesn't matter if they get the error, and you are renaming maps that only have one version.

    Just. Don't. Rename. Maps.

    Hello Silencer.
    I havent tested your map for the moment, but I have some things to say from the pics.

    Please use a custom sky, colorado by night at snowy mountains ? Weird ^_^. Look at greysnake's sky, it's awesome.
    I said that in the WIP thread, but the lightning is really bland and too bright. I see that you're using some light texture, it's probably the reason of that. Try to delete some of them.
    In the last screen, turrets are floating. o_Ô

    Otherwise, it looks pretty good, and i'll test the map when I'll have the time
