Sniper Rifle and Assassination Video

Last time I've promised some new weapon renders, so here we go: The new M40A1 Sniper Rifle. A custom sniper rifle for Sven Co-op was first planned more than 7 years ago, and now finally it's there. This rifle has been modeled and skinned by Toadie. Click on the images for bigger versions.

 

Next to these pictures, me and Goanna have put together a new teaser trailer (like the Tor Warehouse and Sandstone movie). It shows this new weapon in action and the new monster for 4.0: the Bodyguard with various weapons. You will also notice the awareness AI, where monsters react to sounds, movement and allies being killed.

Outstanding work so far! I like how all of the NPC's kind of just freak out for a while instead of instantly shooting right at the player.

How will this map work? Will one person snipe while the others wait so that they can catch the mark when it runs, or something of the sort? And, is the M40A1 much different, in terms of gameplay mechanics, from the SC 3.0 M40A1, or were you referring only to the model as custom? (As, if I recall correctly, the code for the M40A1 and all the other OpFor weapons in Sven Co-op was original rather than copied from OpFor)

The new NPC looks great, also-however, the minigun animation looks a little off... He should maybe hold it a a little lower, and pointing a bit more down. I suppose this is just nitpicking, though

Also, if I interpreted what I saw in the video correctly, I'm guessing SC 4.0 will have ballistic simulation rather than hitscan bullets, which is great!

Great video, and I anticipate this release heavily!

The video and AI is awesome, but the model...

Not as good as I expected, actually every weapon model I've seen so far for 3.5/4.0 is disappointing.

For instance, because of the game engine I think, the models are sort of "shrinked" as they get far from the origin point. The sniper rifle has awesome texture and all but the model is a 1:1 scale from the real, which makes it look weird ingame. The secret is to make the barrel sort of cone shaped so it doesn't look like a freaking toothpick in the end.

It's all about the v_model fov. You can see the difference by looking at screenshots of v_models that have been ported from hl2 to hl1. The fov is much larger in hl1 weapons.

Great model for the sniper rifle, I always wanted a more Black Ops-style one instead of the militaristic OpFor one (without having to reskin). The Gmen bodyguards are funny, especially the one holding the minigun. Oh, and I think you made the first sniper rifle with a projectile!

I've said the same thing to modelers for about a million times, but it's never done :/
