Sven Co-op Map Database (a wiki for SC maps)

Here's a wiki I setup to index all Sven Co-op maps.

This is intended to be a centralized resource where you can find all Sven Co-op maps, including complete information, media, and downloads for each. There is also a page for every mapper, which links to their website and to the maps they've done.

I've done some mapping myself and have a huge respect for all the creativity and effort mappers put into their projects. I started this so the Sven community can have a complete, central home for all of its maps. It's a resource that can stay current and be maintained by the community. Please let me know if you have any suggestions, comments, or any other thoughts.

As of June 2017 we have over 1,000 maps in the map DB.

One thing though, I do feel the page is still a bit disorganized. When I clicked on the link and went to the first page I was brought to, there were tons of links and various font sizes all over the place. It could use a little tidying up.

Thats the beauty (and downfall) of Wikis, anyone can edit, and a history is kept. I will help with the maps and mappers and download links ASAP

Great idea. Why didn't I think of using Wikis. Keen and I were talking around January about a website that had the same basic idea. Anyone remember MapFinger?

I am wondering how you handle beta maps.. that is I've probly made like 500 maps... some of them stem back from test maps not really intended for svencoop to a beta of peanybeta over and over and over. Also there are of course going to be betas leaked here and there that arn't intended to be released. I'm more then happy to add a bunch of my maps on this but most of my maps are in betas of various stages, nonthe less my friends tell me still good and a few of them i should have released already.

So maybe a different section for beta maps or...? I don't know how your gonna handle that kind of thing or maybe its only a Keen problem :/.

With a Wiki anyone can edit, and you can see a history of edits of a page. It is self-moderating. Admins can ban IPs and lock pages if the need arises.

You could make a category in Wiki for Beta maps, Alpha maps, etc. That would put a banner on top of the page that would warn users that the map is beta. You can also omit links to download sites, and only have screenshots.

As for version numbers in the mapname, you can make a new page for each map version, or one with the map name (omitting any version numbers) and add each beta as a new section on that page.

This is actually quite nice. Also excellent for the various older maps which don't have any working screenshots in their threads anymore.

Thanks for all the comments. This is new and I know it's not perfect yet, but I hope to improve things as much as possible.

The block of links with all different sizes is the Tag cloud. It shows all the different keywords maps are "tagged" with, allowing for a much less restrictive way of categorizing maps. The bigger font words mean more maps were tagged with that word. I admit it looks a little messy--and as new tags are thought of, it could get worse. For organization, it might be better to put the main/important categories there, and then show the full list of tags on another page.

Any released maps are fine, as long as they are actually playable Sven maps. These can be added like any other map. If there are some minor issue that players should know about, note it in the Additional Info section.

An early version (alpha) Sven map that is not meant for play can still be added and tagged with "work-in-progress" only if it is still being worked on. Then add this code to the top of the page to warn users:

EDIT: There is now an option to do this automatically.

Unplayable/unreleased maps that have been abandoned are not what this wiki is for. There are so many and it would just get hard to find the real maps, but I might setup a separate section for them.

Each map has one page, with version history listed in the table at the top, and with the newest version in bold. I think it would be unnecessary to make a page for each version and would cause clutter and confusion. While the each map's page focuses on the newest version, any info about previous versions can be included in the "Changelog" section at the bottom.

Is there a specific category tag that we should use for stubs? Would be easier to find pages that lack information (IE the escape pages).
