Lightbulb Potential fix for constant crashing (half life launcher has stopped working.)

I installed 4.07 and was getting constant crashed on map changes and at random on some maps. The cause of this is the fmodex.dll in your half life directory. Here are a few steps in order to get sven to be more stable.

    1. Go to this website and download the more recent fmodex.dll. http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dl...s.shtml?fmodex

1.5. Alternatively you can download the file from the attachment below.

    2. Go to your half life directory (C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\[accountname]\half-life)

    3. Find the fmodex.dll and make a back up of the original just in case the newer .dll makes sven worse.

    4. Take the downloaded fmodex.dll and put it in the half life folder.

    5. Done!

Please post if this solution worked for you.

Virus Scan of the .zip from wwww.virustotal.com (Dont worry the file is safe)

This fix wouldn't be recommended by us. Sniper developed his sound engine using a specific version of Fmod, and using different versions of the Fmod library could make things worse.

If it does work for you, then fine but if anyone else tries this and has more problems, please revert to the Fmod DLL we provide.

Well all the "solutions" on this site dont even relate to the dll causing the crashes. I was on a server with a map that i couldnt play for more than a minute with out it crashing and the server population went from about 8 to 0. Thats when i decided to replace the dll. After that i could play the map without it crashing at all. Although i have had it crash once on map change.

I dont know how things can get anymore worse than the game crashing randomly every 5 minutes

I seriously hope this works, I would actually play Sven Co-op more often if the game didn't crash with such frequency.

so you used the fix and updated your drivers? I think the fix alone is enough as long as your drivers arnt 3 years old

For my sound card, I have to use ancient beta drivers from 2002 so Sven Co-op would not crash.
(And it only is Sven Co-op - every over program which can make sound runs fine)

The correct path to Svencoop is:
    C:\Program Files\valve\Steam\steamapps\accountname\half-life
Maybe that's why you crash so often, lol.

    Mine is at C:\Games\Steam

It really depends where you decided to install yours. Valve did change the default path at one point.

No I did not use your fix after crashing I looked into it and found that my Soundblaster drivers were to blame as the same happened on occassions in other games that used various versions of fmod.dll. Fortunatly it was fixed for my crusty old Audigy but many people still have issues.

Mine is C:\Program Files\Steam and yes they did change it as mine used to point to C:\Program Files\valve before I reinstalled steam. Was quite annoying as it started downloading games looked and saw the gcf's were there. Wasn't until the downloads were finished that I realised the path had changed :@

Seems they changed it back, my daughter just installed steam and the valve folder wasn't in the path.

Re: Potential fix for constant crashing (half life launcher has stopped working.)

The uploaded fmodex.dll passed the sc_heist test. After hitting the loud alarm button, I reloaded the map through console 40 times -- without crashing.

Although it still doesn't fix non-wav files not playing on the rear-left audio channel (quad channel setup), the crash fix will save a lot of headaches.

    This fmodex version is 0.4.8.4.
    4.07's fmodex version is 0.4.24.5.

Edit: Fixed the version number... lol

This looks promising, i would give anything to not crash. Interesting how this fix is nothing but an earlier version of the .dll
Meaning with out consequences, isn't pointless, and is always avoidable.

What sound cards do you all have that it works for because it definatly does not work properly for me, the one used by Sven works fine for me:
    Creative Soundblaster Audigy Player

Realtek HD Audio and Soundblaster X-Fi XtremeGamer for my desktop PC.

My old laptop (Dell Inspiron E1505 with Windows XP MCE and SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio) does not suffer this fmodex issue at all. The latest audio driver is 2 years old.

Also, I forgot to mention that the uploaded fmodex also passes the_room_demo test.
