Black Mesa Nightmare: The Final Version

BLACK MESA NIGHTMARE: THE FINAL VERSION

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    IMPORTANT! READ THIS FIRST!

An error was encountered that pretty much broke most of bm_nightmare_d_final and caused the map to be unplayable. I have recently recompiled the map and have fixed this issue.

If you downloaded the maps on 6/15/2010 or EARLIER, you will need to download the Hotfixed map that I included at the bottom of this post.

If you have NOT downloaded Black Mesa Nightmare Final yet, then just simply download the full pack normally. I have already included the hotfixed map in the zip file.

    Sorry for the inconvenience!!

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At long last.. the maps have been tweaked to work with 4.07!

It took exactly 3 years, from 2.0's release on 6/14/2007 until today! So hopefully it was worth the wait.

There are a few minor bugfixes and changes. Most notably the changing of the map names to "_final". (e.g. bm_nightmare_a_final). This is mostly a quick-n-dirty port otherwise since the conversion from SC 3.0 to 4.0B somehow broke many of the doors and sequences in the original maps.

Anyway, enjoy it! And expect Director's Cut (yes its not dead!) to be out sometime in the next few months!

    BM_NIGHTMARE_B_FINAL

+ Added a piece of paper near the code lock so that you can check back and view the combination anytime.
+ Removed the laser "noise" effect. They will now appear more focused and less shaky.
+ Increased height of certain doorways to allow monsters to fit through.
+ Certain doors have had their "close" times removed, so that they stay open forever. This makes certain puzzles less congested.
+ Reduced Headcrab health by 82% (down to 35 from 200 HP)

    BM_NIGHTMARE_C_FINAL

+ Fixed a rare glitch in which the boss would not be healed even if his minions were all still alive.
+ Fixed a rare glitch in which the boss' minions could be healed infintely.
+ Reduced Headcrab health by 82% (down to 35 from 200 HP)

    BM_NIGHTMARE_D_FINAL

+ Changed the credits to a more neat/sharp font. Should look much better now
+ Fixed a door getting stuck in the gate by Gonomes at the power box area.

    ALL

+ The crossbow is back! Thanks to the command to turn off the explosion.
+ Removed the M16/ARgrenades from the maps.

    PLEASE NOTE!!
I have encountered a strange bug involving bm_nightmare_d_final. If you currently have any older versions of Nightmare on your server when you activate the level transition in bm_nightmare_c_final, it switches to bm_nightmare_d. I've been trying to figure out why it does this and have had no success, but if you get this issue, just delete bm_nightmare_d.bsp and it will fix.

Hey thanks spy-warrior, I added your link to the list. Also fixed up the links on my site, thanks for bringing this to my attention!

I did a run through the maps with my friends today and it was a blast! Everything is working perfectly. Try it out if you get the chance!

Damn, I play through the maps one more time today and I already found an error that renders the map unplayable.

I might have to release a hotfix soon. If you already downloaded the map, stay tuned.

    servers automatically make them?

not to mention they're not actually used if the server uses redirect?

I was expanding on what you were saying, so others knew what .ztmp files were; I wasn't questioning you. Talk about edgy.

i don't know what you're talking about? i'm not arguing at all? <3

also why are there ambient sounds that're already in the sound/ambience folder (drips.wav)

you might wanna compress these .wavs into .ogg or .mp3 files too, they're kind of gigantinormous the way they are

    gigantinormous
To true but anyone that already has the old version won't need to download many new files when connecting to a sever with the new version.

Is there support for MP3's yet? If so I'll gladly convert them over

Oops, not sure how those got into there. You'll have to bear with me and just delete them for now

Thanks for bringing up these issues

Yup, mp3 files don't need cue points either. Once they are triggered they loop endlessly until you trigger them off again.

you might wanna use ogg though since mp3's have a little gap at the start and end of the file so it wont loop as seamlessly as a wav/ogg. also, all mp3's and ogg's loop constantly, so you HAVE to trigger them off if you don't want them to loop forever.

Re: Black Mesa Nightmare: The Final Version

Thanks for all the info. I can't really be bothered going back and re-optimizing the old maps to work with the new sounds, and then having to reupload and re-mirror the new files. A few of the same sounds are in the DC version though so I'll use the oggs/mp3s with those maps.

EDIT: Is there a special entity I need to use for the MP3 files?

    Nevermind I figured it out

Bump! Just wanted to throw this in and say that I added Goanna's mirror back into the list. He's already taken the liberty of removing the unnecessary files (.ztmp etc) for you so if you are feeling lazy, you can use his mirror :P
