    Map either pitch black or 188 brightness

    When i try using light_environment i get a map with 188 brightness and i can not reduce nor increase this (I believe it is 188 because that is the cap value vulzacn set and it seems like its around 200).
    When i remove light_environment and use info_sunglight the map is completely pitch black. I tried the following values 255 255 255 15 and 50 50 50 15 for info_sunlight and the map was pitchblack, and i tried 0 0 0 0 for light_environment and the map was bright.

    I have used light_surface on a few ~LIGHT textures. The map is properly encased in sky.
    I am using VHLT v33 and Compilator 3 beta 15.

    Info_sunlight afaik is a hack for manual sv_sky_xxx CVar overrides. It produces no light.

    Please post full command line and compile log.

    Even without light_surface, info_sunlight, the light_environment does not go bellow 188.
    (light_surface works flawlessly).

    Do you mean to say that even point lights stop working? Have you tried very low brightness values, such as 255 60 190 0.1 ? Sometimes light_environment will cause much more brightness than expected, and just using "0" may trigger "clever" code that thinks you did something you didn't want.

    No, only light_environment doesn't work. Doesn't matter what the value. It is always 188.

    Its obvious that something is overwriting the value I set, but I don't know what.
    Even the simplest map with only two entities, player_start and light_environment, give the same result - Map with 188 brightness.

    Have you checked the settings.txt and lights.rad files within the compile tool directory for strange configurations? Are you using exactly the zhlt.wad shipped with VHLT? There once was a bug with sky texture name case sensitivity.

    @Stojke - FYI, when I compile your simple test map, I also get what looks like 188 or full bright.
    Whatever problem you got, I seem to have also somehow got it.

    Wow this is weird.
    Even with batch file compile with your values I get the same error. Plus, the custom light settings i set under light_surface are much less lit, and the map is 400kB bigger for some reason.

    I have attached the working bsp I have compiled. Please try loading that. If it is either black or full bright, something very different is broken.

    Yup, still 188.
    I use STEAM CS. Seems that light_environment is broken in STEAM CS with VHLT.

    Than again, I got far better results with just using texture lights around my map.

    What are your gamma, brightness and lightgamma CVar values? Can you load the map in plain Half-Life and what are those CVars there? Lightgamma should be 2.5.

    EDIT: Just for emphasis, it DOES work in Steam CS. There still is something else wrong.
    This is what I see in CS 1.6:

    Anything else would be highly strange. The game engine has no means to tell apart environment light from other light in the lightmaps.

    With value of brightness 10 it should have been much darker.

    Disable smart edit in entity properties to see the field.

    It seems that I have forgotten how to properly use light_environment.
    Yes, i was diffuse lights.
