This limit hasn't given me too much trouble yet. The program usually does a good job of estimating the amount of models used in the map (accounting for GMR), but if you're getting this error then I need to make improvements. If you could tell me which map you see this on then I can try figuring out what's wrong (whenever I start working on this project again).

Thanks! That's easy enough to implement. Download the attached version and set random_fog and random_gravity to 0 to disable those randomizations. The super dense fog is also less likely in this version.
Sweet! Thanks, thanks and thanks again!!!

Reasons for those problems to appear:
    1) Models can force precache on certain sounds. Animations in models can use direct sound links, which junks precache too(more models that use direct links for sounds - more chance for this error to appear). Using models with complicated structure of inner sound links could cause this error to appear more often. Inner sound links are rare on default content, but mods still could use them.
    2) If there is any information about NPC in the map file, engine will preload sounds for this certain NPC. So, the most problems with 512 limit will appear on maps, where NPCs are mostly "heaviest on dialogs". Maps with hgrunts, scientists and barneys altogether will be most likely to crash\fail to load, or maps with multiple kind of enemies, like headcrabs, zombies, houndeyes, gonarchs, alien slaves, scientists, barneys, barnacles. This takes most of the c1aX chapter, partially hits c2aX and c3aX. Only in very bad cases, it will appear in c0a0, and rarely could be seen at c4aX and c5a1 maps(because most of NPCs there are dialog-easy).
P.S. By dialog I mean a set of sounds that npcs use for their basic behaviour like idle\attack\use and etc.

    Re: Glitch-Life program

    This program is absolutely wonderful.

I have a few questions though:

    1. I'm encountering a problem at points: Sometimes a map will go back to the title screen because a model wasn't precached and gives a Host_Error message. How do I fix this?

    2. If you randomize a 2nd time with gsrand maps still there, will they be re randomized, or do I still have to remove and randomize them again?

Thanks, and keep up the good work!

    Re: Glitch-Life program

    1. This sounds like a bug in SC (see issue #2). The program will try to avoid that scenario, but maybe you found a new combination of models that causes the same error. You can delete lines from your map's .gmr file to pinpoint what's causing the error (assuming gmr_only=1). You might even be using a bad model that needs to be added to the [anything] blacklist in gsrand_models.txt.

    2. Your randomized maps will be re-randomized/overwritten - you don't have to remove them. The only exception is if you're not using a map prefix or if you're using an empty map list.

    3. Thanks for the vid! Try to get in there quicker next time.

    Re: Glitch-Life program

Is there any actual limits on quantity of stuff to randomize from?
I have that strange bug, where every map has this aquarium texture. EVERY map has it, sometimes replacing multiple textures at once, like some textures of chairs, then some part of walls and ceilings.

And this rarely happens during compilation:
gsrand_c1a2d TEX...The number of textures was overestimated
    Failed to load random textures

Rolled back to version 4. Everything works now.

    Re: Glitch-Life program

It sounds like gsrand had trouble reading textures embedded in some of your maps, and then created a bad wad. There's no hard limit on the number of maps, but you might have a few maps that are corrupted or irregular which gsrand couldn't handle.

If you want, you can find and send me the map(s), so then I can reproduce the problem add some code to stop this from happening. Either that or send me a zip of all your maps (including the ones in svencoop_downloads) and I could look for it.

    Reporting a bug:
There are no animated textures As I downgrade versions down to v1, it seems that animated randomed textures are only present in v1, and not present since v2. Is that intentional? And, if not, could it be restored?
    Thanks alot for your time!

Nope that's not intentional. For some reason I disabled some code that handles animated textures. I'll add this to my todo list.

    Re: Glitch-Life program

So something happened and now every time I try playing a map it spawns me with no HEV suit and no items, and whenever I die it tries loading a glitch life map. First I tried deleting the maps and nothing happened. After using the undo function from the program it still didn't fix it. Will I just have to reinstall sven co-op?

The maps have to be loading from somewhere. Where did you delete the maps from? Maps are loaded from the following directories:
    Code:
    /Half-Life/svencoop/maps
    /Half-Life/svencoop_downloads/maps
    /Half-Life/valve/maps
The glitch-life maps have to be loading from one of these places or else something magical is happening. Do you have multiple svencoop installations? I'm not sure how else these maps could be loading after you deleted them.

edit: Actually, I'm not sure if maps can be loaded from anywhere but svencoop/maps. I know models/sounds/etc. can load from other places though.

Oh, I'm sorry I forgot to say whenever I play any map. This includes playing non-glitch life maps. And it doesn't actually load the maps just freezes on the loading screen. The maps were saved in half-life/svencoop/maps.

    Re: Glitch-Life program

There's a possibility that your original maps were randomized in place. That happens if you choose "No Prefix" in the gsrand options. In that case Undo should restore your maps, but if that doesn't work then you're out of luck.

You could try downloading the server install zip for SC 4.8 and only replacing your maps instead of doing a full reinstall.

    Everything works but 2 things.
    1. Model replacement. no models are replaced. It says it finds them.
    2. Sound replacement doesn't change NPC voices/screaming. Moster voices, scientist death sounds, etc. change, but not npc voices.

Are "mapname_gmr.gsrand" files generated with the new maps? In the .cfg files you should see something like "globalmodellist ../../maps/gsrand_c0a0c_gmr.gsrand". This is assuming you have gmr_only=1 in your config. If you have all that and it still doesn't work, then my next question is are you playing Sven Co-op? (I'm not sure what could possibly be breaking model replacement)

This sounds like it might be related to your model replacement issue. I would check if the sentence files (mapname_sentences.gsrand) are being generated for each map. The map .cfg files should also have a line similar to "sentence_file maps/gsrand_c1a2_sentences.gsrand".

Ok, next I would check the contents of gsrand_c1a0_gmr.gsrand and gsrand_c1a0_sentences.gsrand to make sure they look "normal"

Here's what part of my gsrand_c1a0_gmr.gsrand looks like:
    Code:
    "sprites/mommaspit.spr" "sprites/adamr/smokepuff.spr"
    "sprites/mommaspout.spr" "sprites/tinyspit.spr"
    "sprites/bigspit.spr" "sprites/muz8.spr"
    "sprites/tinyspit.spr" "sprites/shockrifle/ShockSphereExplosion.spr"
    "sprites/xspark4.spr" "sprites/biglolly_coop/xffloor.spr"
    "models/shotgunshell.mdl" "models/sc_russian/cars/DGF_truck_chassis.mdl"
    "models/shell.mdl" "models/them/medkit2.mdl"
    "models/saw_shell.mdl" "models/sh1/csweapons/v_xm1014.mdl"
    And part of my gsrand_c1a0_sentences.gsrand:
    Code:
    RB_GREN0 squeek/sqk_hunt1
    RB_GREN1 sc_robination/petardo1 petardo1 darksecret
    RB_ALERT0 voltigore/voltigore_run_grunt2 voltigore_idle2
    RB_ALERT1 nihilanth/nil_freeman nil_comes nil_slaves
    RB_MONST0 zombie/zo_pain1 zo_idle4 zo_idle2 claw_miss1
    RB_MONST1 headcrab/hc_idle3 hc_headbite
    RB_COVER0 kingpin/kingpin_alert3 kingpin_alert1 kingpin_seeker3 kingpin_pain1
If all this looks fine, then I think there's something wrong with your Sven Co-op installation. Does model replacement work at all, in any maps? The normal c1a0 should have an HD model of G-Man if GMR is working. Maybe try changing gmr_only to "0" in your config so that model replacements are written directly into the map data.

Sometimes, maps use mp3 files for background music.. how about force-changing em as well?

    Re: Glitch-Life program

Most custom maps with music should already be changed. The campaign maps use trigger_cdaudio, which is limited to music from HL, and so changing them would only change to different HL music. I think the best way to replace these would be by converting them into ambient_generics and playing a custom sound file that qualifies as "music" (anything longer than a few seconds?).

It's kind of a lot of work for not much gain but I still plan to do it someday.

    Re: Glitch-Life program

    Thanks for your reply.
    I see now, you're right.
trigger_cdaudio, as far as I know, uses some script file, in which it identifies every soundtrack with a specific ID number, so its actually is impossible to change playlist from inside of the map. So, you can just alter this very script file.
But.. that would be an another "dangerous" file.. except for the fact that it's size is just around few KBs, you can just back it up and never move\remove it since the first corruption process, and then just make a copy of it, and rename that copy back to original file's name, while "Undo" is in process.

    Hitting the limits!
    5k sounds
    4,5k models
    230 wads
    6k embedded textures

Do you guys know any good sources of fun/juicy sounds, textures and models?

I personally recommend: Snow wars, Vampire Slayer, The Specialists, Brainbread, Jammie's mod, Crack-Life, Half-Screwed.
Also, to remove some unwanted npc sounds, I highly recommend to move npc sound folders away from sound folder. This will affect nothing but increasing chance of non-original content to appear.

    Re: Glitch-Life program

Just posting a minor update here (link in first post). This version lets you exclude content bigger than a certain size, which cuts the randomized content size down quite a bit. Textures can also be "compressed" to a certain max resolution to save more space. The new options in the config file are "max_file_size" and "texture_compression".

The point of this is to make sharing your maps a lot faster. When I use a 100 KB file limit and 64x64 max texture size, my randomized HLSP .zip is about 700 MB, where as before it was nearly 4 GB. Even just using a 1 MB limit shaved off about 2 GB.

This version also includes the changes from the "SiEgE edition" (with the options to disable random fog and gravity, and the super dense fog is less likely to occur).

Sadly, the main problem of SiEgE edition did travel to newer version aswel - corrupted gsrand_embedded_textures.wad, where textures has nothing for name, so game uses the first one instead of everything other.

I love your pictures! I would love to have a copy of your build(s) if possible here are my current builds:

They Hunger Glitch-Life(They-Glitch)94mb every other map crashes though Bad Surface Extents
Stadium 3x 13mb (3 builds of stadium 3 I think are mostly stable as long as you dont spam)
Half-Life Single Player (Glitch-Life lite) 60mb only uses models and sounds from inside half-life, no res required and perfect for putting on servers and playing online with friends!

    and some screenshots of they-glitch
