How many server operators host Sven Co-op games on Windows Server 2003 or XP?

Hi there, this thread is only for the Sven Co-op server ops out there, in particular those of you hosting game servers on the Windows platform.
This is not for those of you that are players only, or those of you hosting game servers on Linux.

We are looking to upgrade part of the donor system to make it more reliable as the HTTP component we are using right now lacks the reliability we want, and HTTPS support. This has already been implemented in our game server, though whilst this currently works fine it does create a new compatibility issue with Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP, therefore it is not included in any public releases yet.

The problem is that the native SSL/TLS support from Microsoft's crypto library from back then doesn't support TLS versions 1.1 or 1.2, and more importantly it doesn't support SNI. Whilst it's possible to avoid this issue by using OpenSSL instead of the Microsoft crypto library it's significantly more work, and will require additional updates each time a new OpenSSL security bug is found (whereas Microsoft's can be patched with Windows Update as our game server would just interface with it).

As support for Windows 2003 and XP was discontinued many years ago you should not be using it in a production environment anyway, particularly as Sven Co-op can be hosted equally well on Windows 2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2, and 2016, and of course Linux for free, therefore it doesn't justify the extra work and maintenance required on our part getting the Windows servers to use OpenSSL. That being said we would like to know how many Sven Co-op server operators still run on Windows 2003 / XP. Please let us know in the enclosed poll.

Linux servers will use OpenSSL as this is already quite the norm for this platform, and quite easy for us to support.

If you are not sure which version of Windows you are running you can find out in a remote desktop session by opening the system properties control panel. (Shortcut: Windows key + Pause) Alternatively open Internet Explorer (NOT Firefox or Chrome) and visit this URL: https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/viewMyClient.html

    Thanks for hosting our game.
