    FMOD Ex error code 51

    Hello

Ever since 5.0 came out I've had this problem.
Because of this bug, I cannot hear any sounds, apart of some few selected ones.
Menu sounds, such as button hover overs, presses and music work right.

    Error window in question :

I've tried to verify files, reinstall the game, to no success.

if you can post your system specifications and specifically what kind of sound card, i think this would help the devs

    "Realtek High Definition Audio"

Are you using the proper drivers from Realtek or are you using the default ones provided by Microsoft? The proper ones from Realtek themselves tend to do a better job, and make use of all the features of your particular model of audio device.

Windows 10 makes it much more difficult to use downloaded drivers because Windows Update automatically pushes its own drivers, and since updates are forced, it's really annoying to turn them off.

It should only push them if it believes they are older.
If updating the drivers doesn't work can you right click your volume icon in the taskbar and click "Playback Devices"
Select "Speakers" (Could be Headset but it should state under it "Realtek High Definition Audio")
    Click "Properties"
    Click the "Advanced" tab
    For me
I have "24 Bit, 48000 HZ (Studio Quality)" selected, this is because for me anything higher stops applications such as Skype from working
"Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" is checked
"Give exclusive mode applications priority" is also checked

    Thanks

That is very odd indeed. Skype is supposed to use DirectSound or WASAPI in shared mode, so the sound format it uses gets resampled to that of your device default you've selected here. Only exclusive modes (WASAPI exclusive and ASIO) should encounter an error like this. For example some of my music is in 32,006 Hz, which will not play in WASAI exclusive because this frequency isn't supported by my sound device, but it will in DirectSound or WASAPI shared because the audio is resampled to 192,000 Hz.

I wonder if your Skype is somehow using WASAPI in exclusive mode. If it is, I want to know how.

I'm not sure these would be important for Sven Co-op, because the FMOD sound engine uses WASAPI in shared mode by default (for Windows Vista or later) or DirectSound (for Windows 2000/XP). It will never want exclusive use of your sound devices.

I'd suggest it's worth turning these off as a test, because it will prevent any other application from claiming exclusive use of your sound device either via WASAPI or ASIO). @3dquake: It would be useful to know what other applications you have running that are capable of playing audio, as it may be one of them is locking your sound device exclusively for itself.

    Hey all,

Seems like the simplest solution gave the best results, as in, installing better drivers.
    All works well now, thanks!

That's what I suspected. The drivers from Realtek themselves do a much better job than stock Microsoft ones.

    Good to hear it works.
