    "Official Post Your Almost Done Beta Map's Thread" ie:"Oh I'll post that map on the Sven Forums Eventually Once X, Y and Z are done..."

    I am CryoKeen, I make many maps. I am a perfectionist like (You) and have many "unreleased" maps floating around out there or on my HD and not fully released. Like all humans my will power to focus on any one task or map and fix all bugs and dreams of completion is limited by real world factors such as sleep, work and other life factors. So I figured YOLO, I shall make this thread and help us all release the maps we can relax deep breathe and allow ourselves the opportunity to release with a little effort.

    This thread is for people to encourage other mappers like myself who have been holding onto maps for far, far to long and not releasing them public for people to play and give feedback in this thread . At least 1 person told me they would also post their beta maps in a thread like this if i took the plunge and made this thread and posted some of mine first. (if there are any problems with the res files or missing content or a map not functioning beyond the main bugs I have stated please do post and I will attempt a quickfix/update if it's not to difficult)



    here are some basic guidelines to what each map you post should look like:

    1. First post 1 or 2 embedded images of your map preferably under 1024x1024 with additional images linked only via html link. I like using www.tinypic.com

    2. A short description of the concept and function of your map or what unique features it has. Then post a description of what you never got around to finishing, what main bugs there are and/or what you meant to finish but didn't get around to (a boss monsters, a Level End Trigger etc)

    3. Download Link to Your Map in a compressed format [.zip/.rar/.7z], I recommend www.dropbox.com

    You may post rmf/map files with your map, but that is not required at all. You may post maps (compiled bsps and needed files) here you have no intention of ever working on again, or maps you think you might work on again if you get proper feedback, it's entirely up to you.
    if no one else contributes to this thread, I will attempt to bump this thread every month or so with stuff I've made over the years. feel free to move this to any forum you seem appropriate admin masters, although I would like to point out this thread kind of represents the very fact that there should be a "Beta Map Forum" because "Map Showcase Almost Fully Completed Maps" and then "Work in Progress" and no inbetween kind of scares people off a bit to post their maps, which is why I made this thread topkek

    So without further-ado, here are some popular maps I've worked on over the years:


    Crazywalkerb5 - a map that is almost complete that I made, you go through a strange bleeding mushroom acid-like land, defeat xen monsters and get teleported about the map while blowing away npcs and seeing trippy colorful textures all around you. then the spawns flip wrong, after the blue stargate shuttle moves along the top of the spawn and you find yourself going "wtf, rtv rtv rtv" until then it's an amazing journy. I have tried to get around to ripenting the end of this map proprely but never fully finished it. A shame. Maybe with your support I can finally finish this.

    Main Issues: Map ending does not trigger proprely due to improper info_player_deathmatch respawning. Otherwise a solid, fun map.

    greencella - a map that contains many underground mario chambers and angry af plants in pipes that attack u if u get to close. also a shark pissing (env_shooter, it's very basic and stupid I made it when I was a teen) but that's a very minor part of the map. it mainly consists of underwater combat vs alien xen monsters with rock pebbles and mario monsters attacking you all over. there is no proper "end" to the map once you complete the obstacle course of pipes, maybe I'll ripent in a headcrab to end the map one of these days.

    Main Issues: Map ending does not have a proper game_end trigger. Otherwise a short/medium, fun map.

    2. CryoCity4 (plus cryocity 5 and 7) (+18 because the world is a prude). a working func_vehicle map for sven co-op 5.0 you can use the many func_vehicles in this map to drive around and plow through monsters and friendlys alike. Explore the map, it's towers full of typical soldiers and alien_slaves, as well as the depths of the map with a funky non-functional arcade and many respawning monsters. the monsters do seem to reproduce forever in the underground area, so i set the CFG to only host the map for 30 minutes at time. I have included other versions CryoCity5/6/7 as well, but they seem to crash with increasing frequency, but do include things such as amazing ramps and semi-functional arcade machines. currently you must suicide with K to free yourself from the machine constraints. There are some very, very minor mildly pornographic DRAWN IMAGES on some of the towers in CryoCity4, CryoCity 6 and 7 lack these asthestic buildings but become increasingly crashy.

    Main Issues: The maps are a quick hodge-podge func_vehicle and lobby testing map/s cobbled together from other parts, enjoy them for what they are! No proper game_end. in cryocity4 the monsters or players can shoot the map change buttons at spawn and trigger a vote map change. you are only likley to have very few of the maps on the list so it's unlikely to do much unless you have those maps installed on your server/machine.

    cryo_underground2 - a map very similar to the cryocity4 series, no adult content and only underground with lots of driving paths if you can discover them, some semi-working Snake machine but like before you have to kill yourself to respawn from the Snake Arcade due to bug. otherwise an expansion of the underground facility seen in cryocity4-5-7 with many tiny func_vehicles for you to play with. the spawn rate is reasonable in the "habbitat" underground area with the elevator that spawns grunts near the arcade area, perfect for a lobby map imho. also the pacman machine is broken for some unknown reason maybe another release or w00tguys magic fingers will fix it. he's got a lot on his plate though right now, no rush.

    Main Issues: Map ending does not have a proper game_end trigger. Otherwise a short/medium, fun map.

    I hope someone is able to fix up crazywalker as it is a very nice map. I have tried with ripent but failed (but then again I am a noob with that).
    At the end, when the shuttle goes off, there spawn 2 bullchicks and 1 aslave, I wanted to trigger the changemapage target on the death of one of them but I can't find those monster entities in the .ent file? Any hints? Also a change to include for whoever hacks the game_end in there: target "coolantcuctuck" change "wait" to "-1", otherwise people will spam the "Powercell opened the underground crack door grate"-cutscene (its only funny if you are the one spamming it lol).

    For greencell I can probably do a ending ripent but have to it play first to see whats fitting.

    The cryo_undergrund2 archive does not include the keen_vehicles map script, I guess it is needed to play the map correctly.

    cryo_underground2: "-soundlist" "../" <-- This kills the linux. (same in cryocity7)

    SvenDS insta freezing as soon as map is changed. Just hangs, not even a error message.

    I mostly have maps that are prototyping some idea and are nowhere near finished (pre-pre-alpha beta alpha alpha v0) due to bugs or lack of motivation.

    Post them anyway??

    What i was referring in this was, that rather not to put any beta stages of map to everyones hands someone might take the easy way out of hard work. Ofc its all fine to me what you do with your own stuff.
    I think it's commonly understood that any map sources or concepts you post in the public can be "stolen" pretty easily. It's understandable that people (especially active mappers) would avoid posting here because of that.

    Personally, I wouldn't mind if someone downloaded one of my public .rmfs and used stuff from it in their own map, even without credit. I think it's better to see stuff used at all than to have it rot in a HD forever, as keen says.

    ok sorry for callin u pussys idk been a emotoinal day and i just want ppl to release maps 0mg 3 weeks since 5.0 come out and almost no one has anything to show for it ;-; but i understand also mirror y u h8 me s0 much man we used to be at least decent now u h8 m8 no h8 m8 just r8 me 9/8

    Also can anyone have a word on the crazywalker map if it is possible to make the game_end work, via ripent, at the end of the map?

    By now everything should be fixed (even if it is a bit hacked lol). I can put together an archive later. Keen also added new stuff, model replacments and added new weapons

    Here's some garbage I abandoned years ago:

    Trash Pack (17 maps, 27 MB)

    Some are a bit interesting, some have no point, and a couple have cringey voice acting. noob.bsp is probably the most playable out of the bunch.
