    Recommend me a keyboard

I've had a Microsoft Digital Media Pro keyboard for around 5-6 years now, and I've liked it a lot. After much use some of the keys are starting to not respond all the time (space and shift usually), one of the back risers has broken off, and the palm rest doesn't stay attached. It's served me well though, and is certainly the best keyboard I've had.

Now that I'd like a replacement I went through the usual places (eBuyer, Dabs, and even Amazon) for a new one and found the market is now just a bunch of suckity suck suck. Nobody seems to sell a similar keyboard any more, it's all thin Apple-like crap or oversized gaming keyboards with 300 keys.

I'm wondering if anyone here knows of a keyboard that is of a standard UK layout. That's all the keys in their correct position, none moved, none missing. I really dislike keys such as Windows key, context menu key, or whatever missing -- this is common on laptops.

I'd also like the 4 media keys plus 3 volume keys, and I've also grown to using the calculator button a lot too. I don't mind if the web browser and email buttons are missing, I don't use those. I also never use the zoom slider, folder short-cuts, and 5 favourite application buttons. I also keep the function lock permanently on (to get F1-F12 rather than the "save" and such). Considering I use a desktop KVM most of the extra keys wouldn't work anyway.

US layout of my current keyboard:

I'd greatly appreciate any recommendation of a new keyboard similar to the one I have now. I don't mind paying up to £40 for a keyboard Massive thanks.

    Re: Recommend me a keyboard

A few years back I learned that the only difference between cheap keyboards and expensive ones is just the price tag.

Except for the lack of the UK layout, this one isn't bad. Sadly, I live US so I have no idea where to look for UK keyboards.

The only (maybe) UK keyboards I know of would be from Roccat.
They have four options, but they could be pricey.
I'm that awesome guy you don't want to be.

    What RNG said, also:

I have a Logitech G11 and use none of those function and macro keys. A failbuy in a way but it can perceive a lot of simultaneous key-presses which was important to me at the time.

Microsoft keyboard here too, this one:

Except with a bigger enter and with the scandinavian A and O. Price was only 25 eurs (about £20). I've liked it very much so far, but I'm not that picky.

Those bent keyboards require a ridiculous amount of getting used to.

That Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000 looks like my favourite so far. The only downside I see is it's missing the seek and stop media keys.

Threw my last microsoft keyboard out a window, it sucked and I was furious it kept missing key presses.

    Cyborg v7

    hihihi

I've been using a Microsoft Sidewinder X4 since March and still does it's job flawlessly, or you could try an X6 but those are a bit (a lot) more expensive (in Romania though).

    Re: Recommend me a keyboard

I did think of getting an X4 a few times actually, though the S1-S6 keys would be useless as I use a KVM switch. Also tempted by a Qpad MK-50, but they are expensive.

I bought the cheapest keyboard available and i don't have any trouble adapting to pretty much any keyboards pretty quickly.

    Re: Recommend me a keyboard

I am also looking for a keyboard. The sidewinder X4 seems good, but I require standard sized function keys and preferably none of those left side buttons.

    Re: Recommend me a keyboard

I'm finding 2 downsides with the X4. Just two. Firstly the keys feel a little thin, though I'm just used to older chunky keys. Secondly the left S function keys mean the keyboard is moved to the right little, as the keyboard is at the edge of my desk. My left hand will need time to adapt to this.

I actually have an X2 as well. The problem I have with it is that Caps Lock is larger than I'm used to. After several months I still hit it occasionally when trying to press A.
