    [SC 5.x] Obsidian Conflict's memory , HL2 weapons.

    For a long time , a HL2 coop mod ,Obsidian Conflict, still being dead , but I still can't forget the days I played them.

    This time , I ported these weapons used in Obsidian Conflict help me recall the HL2 coop play.

    Bear in mind that the MP5k and the "AR3" aren't from us, but donated by their authors. While the sniper rifle is modified from the leak one (especially with a new texture), except the UZIs (which we made a new model for the Steam version before it was canceled), all are the same as in HL2 (except they have rebel arms, that's it).

    You can thank Valve for making the Source engine too unstable to bother continue working on it. Also, another important factor was that we were "old", between 24-27 years, so we have lives to take care of.

    We had several new stuff prepared for the Steam version, but the Steampipe update killed any chances to reach it. Rewritting the code to 2013 was taking too long and hard (again due how unstable it's nowadays the engine), and the fact that many of the modding tools broke (HLMV needs a bat file to run now, Hammer will crash at the first chance, and Faceposer just doesn't even start) or not longer were updated (ASW engine forever stuck on pre-steampipe version, Source 2013 being just a glorified Source 2009, nowadays Source being locked behind a paid license) made us raise the white flag.

    And for seeking team replacements, who's gonna bother with such engine that is literally a tower of ducttape, when you have for free UE4 and Unity?

    It teared apart our hearts doing such decision. Officially we didn't announced the disband (and likely we will never).


    Anyway, even if we had managed to reach Steam, we would face the same problems (look at other Source mods like Synergy or NMRIH, those who can are moving to Unreal Engine).

    God this is a depressing read, Steampipe broke so many damn things, I heard similar stories from other dev teams and a rumor that a remake of Opfor for source might have been another direct casualty of same problems. Breaking the SDK and tools was inexcusable and made me lose a lot of respect for valve. I stopped making custom content for source because of SDK problems.

    However , some of these weapons cannot find an object to reskin existed weapons, maybe it could need to be an angelscript weapon:

    Gravity Gun
    Stun Stick
    Bug Bait
    Manhack thrower (it like the snark , but throwing friendly manhack)
    OC's Medkit (with less animation)
    AR2 (with shooting energy ball ability)
    Alyx's gun ( with an ability can switch to pistol/mp5 )


    Some weapons has possibility to reskin an existed weapon:

    BOR-AK5 ====> M16
    G36c ====> Mp5
    OICW ====> Mp5
    Reminton-870 ====> shotgun (in fact , it has crazy high density of bullets, and slow reload and shoot)
    CZ52 =====> handgun
    Spas12 =====> shotgun ( it could be mommamesa's shotgun reskin , it's the same type of shotgun used in mommamesa)

    Well since some weapons in hl2 don't exist as stuff was changed maybe you could as a silly option make manhacks but give them tiny feet to hop about, bug bait as a dumb grenade option and so on, stun stick though could be the pipe wrench in some sense.

    Still, if some weapons don't exist could maybe use the black mesa version of them or just find something that looks as close as it can be to a hl2 variant

    I got a minor request, I know these are HL2 arms and weapons but could you include Sven weapons on the hl2 arms? I keep thinking I'm playing hl2 when I use the pistol so I try to spam click left click then realize "Oh right. hl1 hl1, not hl2." Maybe provide a different pistol or something? Thanks, nice job on the weapons, hope you finish the pack fully.

    It's okay , you done more good things than me.

    I appreciate your grapple , medkit , muzzles , pipe wrench , and sprites. Most of hl2 muzzle I can't found any.


    (I use Portal gun to be spore launcher , but it wasn't Obsidian Conflict weapon so I didn't post here)

    If you have garrysmod, you can go into the room on gm_construct where you can set the walls black, then pull out the Advanced Particle Controller tool, then choose from the list of source games and the effect, then capture footage to convert to sprites. If you don't have garrysmod you can invoke -tools to your launch options and access the particle editor directly but its tricky to use.

    Yeah, well it would be nice to make the pack more fitting, maybe if there is no good replacement for a weapon it may be a good idea to just take the weapon and put it on the hl2 arms.

    I am really looking for a man-hack if that is ever possible. Also how does one install these or even make back ups of old stuff? Sorry I am a bit new (renew) to all this...

    Also I had a short explanation before, but what exactly happened with Valve and the community? I had to leave right after Steam was enforced and although some did not like the idea of Steam in the first place, I did not really see any problems at the time. HL1 was still going strong in the mod department (I remember loving Hostile Intent, Brain Bread and Zombie Panic, to name only a few of the newest ones back then.) and HL2 had already started theirs. I remember Empires being one, Age of Chivalry another and a few others.

    But many years later I come back, anticipating a bunch of mods on HL2 as there were for HL1, but was quite disappointed and confused... So what exactly happened?

    By the way, really nice models and I have been looking for Combine arms for some map ideas! Thank you! But what is the difference between the AR2 & AR3? Does one have a drum for extra ammo or does it have a faster rate of fire, etc.? Also does the dark energy ball work or is it still a M203 default grenade?
