    RAGEMAP 2019


    So how does it work?
    Going back to the roots of the RAGEMAP with a time restriction of 3 hours to make your part for this project. To speed things up, we won't pass on the map from mapper to mapper, but all work on it simultaneously. To easily connect the parts, I've created a universal hub room, which everyone uses as the start and end point of their parts. This room can also be used as a respawn point when necessary. You can pick one of the 4 doors and start building in that direction.



    When is the deadline for handing in your parts?
    Sunday, July 14th (whenever that is in your time zone). If you're done before that date, you can hand it in at any time.

    How do I join the RAGEMAP project?
    Reply to this post and I'll add you to the list. Also, join the Discord channel. You can join the project up to 1 day before the deadline.

    Where can I download the source package with the hub/wad/other stuff?
    Right here!

    Do I need a special skillset to join?
    No. Newbie or pro, everyone can join up. If you have enough grasp on the editor to make something within 3 hours, you are going to be just fine. As everyone has the same time limit, no one is expecting something perfectly polished and/or ground breaking. You can make whatever you want, may it be a puzzle, jumping section or fight sequence. Even if everyone hands in a part where you just fight aliens, putting all those parts toghether will probably still make for a decent walkthrough map. So if you're stuggling to come up with an idea, just open Hammer and start building something. You'll never know what comes out on the other end. That's what's RAGEMAP is all about.

    What are the rules/restrictions?
    - Work on your part for 3 hours maximum. Doesn't have to be in one sitting, you can divide your time over several days.
    - You can plan your part ahead of time and use prefabs for objects. Just don't make entire parts outside of the timelimit.
    - There is no theme, so you can make whatever you want! But make something that's fair and playable, not just random bullcrap.
    - Try to balance the map to 4 - 8 players. You can tweak your part after playtesting of course.
    - Go easy on powerful weapons. You don't want to give all players fully charged Gluons right from the start and ruin everyones elses parts. If you really have to use powerful weapons, please make a weaponstrip at the end of your part.
    - Scripting is allowed and doesn't neccesarily need to be part of the 3 hour limit, but do not go overboard. As a guideline, time scripting could amount for 50% of regular time. So 1 hour of scripting = -30 min mapping time or something like that. I'll leave that up to your own consideration.
    - No offensive content.
    - Custom content is ok, but keep the filesize low (only a few megs per person).

    Technical stuff:
    - Make sure your targetnames/triggers have your own prefix, so we don't end up with problems (eg. hezus_door1).
    - Use the AAATRIGGER texture on triggers and other invisible brush entities.
    - There is a RAD file in the package for all HL.wad lights. If you are using other texture lights, please use the light_surface entity. Do not edit the RAD file.
    - Don't hog all the engine resources and optimise your map before handing it in.
    - You can use all WADs that come with default SC installation. If you use custom textures, please transfer the ones you use to the ragemap2019.wad file. Do not hand in entire custom WADS.
    - Make sure you use the folder structure as used in the source package.
    - The package currently contains a normal daylight skybox. If many people want to create a certain theme, we can change it, but remember there can only be one per BSP.
    - Compile parameters for final RAD: -smooth 240 -smooth2 240 -extra -sparse -bounce 8

    What should I do before handing it in?
    - Test your part. You can fix up bugs outside of the 3 hour limit. Please don't hand in something half-baked, which will take me 3 hours to fix.
    - Optimise your part (also not part of the 3 hour limit). Especially the CLIPNODES. The better you do this, the more parts we can fit into one BSP. Find the bit about clipnodes at the end of this tutorial.
    - Make sure you supply all your custom content (wads, sounds, models, sprites, etc).
    - You do not have to send the BSP, only the RMF. Please name it, so I know it's yours (e.g. ragemap2019_hezus.rmf)

    Where do I hand in my part?
    Either find me on Discord and send it to me through IM or post it in this thread as a link or attachment (or in a forum PM).

    I've created a mini-version of the hub room. I'll use this to connect small parts together, which don't require a new spawn point. This will surely save some engine resources. There's some room for ammoboxes and chargers in the corner if they are neccesary.

    My part was finalized and it was sent to Hezus for the further inspection.
    He noted the lack of NPC nodes and the "Monsters Can't" flag wasn't checked, other than that, it was good. (he fixed these problems)
