    RunAndGun

    Don't you just love the recent wave of newbie mappers?
    Well here is my first map ever for Half-Life\SvenCoop or for any type of game for that matter. It is called 'RunAndGun' and what you do in this map is run around and gun down anything that isn't friendly. This was a pratice run at mapping for me and to see if I could learn worldcraft 3.3. The map is made for 2-8 people with grunts as your enemy force. Basic design and AI layout makes this map up. Here is the map and enjoy:

    I changed a few things and added a couple secrets too. I left some visual clues as to where they are so all you have to do is look around. I got the impression that some people think all the map is is the base/spawn point. Well that is wrong and it is bigger than that. The map is split into three areas A, B and C. A is the base, B is on the other side of the boxes and C is on the other side of the fencing with the radio shack. ...So here it is for anyone that cares :edit:

    well it was...........well.............anyways
    i thought the r-speeds were nice
    my clans men and i got bord of it really fast tho
    then endless monster spawns
    and i felt whats the point
    whats the point?.....here is a gun,go kill people and
    the werst part is there isnt even a reason that u want to kill them
    maby add a screat room and to see it you gota kill
    ur way threw the grunts,also it shouldnt be called run and gun
    maby outaammocamp.bsp

    but hey,its better then anything i could do:P

    LOL When i was a newbie?
    I made a
    -full base
    -two miniguns in 2 towers
    -a destroctable base
    -a tank with rocket launcher and machine gun
    - lots of monsters with scripted movements to come inside base
    -alamr sounds
    -friendly grunts
    -control center with usable cameras
    -a trigger hurt system
    -a spotlights system :P
    -a warehouse
    -a game end

    However after i make all this i release my map with few bugs
    which i hope to fix in "nv_natack2"

    Lol sorry tell you this but i want give u and advice... Good maps don't take always lots of time to make... :P keep working

    Not a bad attempt for a first map, main problem was r_speeds rather than any serious basic problems. Seemed to be tough when I ran through it on godmode and it won't win any prizes, but compared to the typical newb map its a good start.

    Keep up the mapping.

    Hmm,neat or something. Ran smooth on my system and my friends when we ran it. My system is a p4 1.5Ghz and his was an AMD 950Mhz. Don't worry the next map I make will be smaller in over all size and no big open areas. As the next map will be called the 'Complex' and I plan to learn different lighting and basic triggers next with maybe a train in it too . As for that Navy Seal guy I'll just ignore him and learn mapping in 'baby steps' cuz some of us just don't think we are GOD

    What? Who are you talking about?

    Keep it up...and maybe read up on r_speeds and wpoly and epoly next time around. Always try to test on lower end systems...if you have access to one...you spoiled brat...

    Well the slowest system that I have built is the 500 in the basement but I do still have my 166 somewhere. I could see if I have enough parts around the house to build that one back up or then again maybe not
    Here is the kicker the 1.5Ghz was free to me cuz of where I use to work until I got laid-off ...argh!!!

    Thats the problem with newer systems, hard to tell how the map will play on older computers.

    R_speeds are the amount of w_poly's that are being generated onscreen at any one point in the map. The amount that are being shown is limited by properly VISing the map.

    To view r_speeds in your map, type Developer 1 in the console followed by r_speeds 1. Walk around.

    R_speeds of around 200-400 are very good, anything over about 1000 is sort of bad. Anything inbetween is probably acceptable in smaller areas.

    your game laged like a mofo
    even on a T1 dedicated sever
    alot i liked the "tank"from aliens and the friendly grunts it was nothing but a laged out fragfest

    HEY HEY i was not telling you suck as mapper...
    I was trying to tell you that you do not need to make big maps with lots of grunts to have fun...
    I mean i saw fun maps with only plataforms...
    You must have lots of imagination to make it a fun map.
    See the svencooprpg as an example its not high detailed...
    The story is fun (however monsters kill us alot which make the map a little boring about run all the time even with shortcuts) but its still fun... and that ideia to make people chosse between weapons its for a genius :P i would never think in make that... but i got my own ideias...

    Out of ammo? Use the boxes

    Well there is a 'story' to the map if that is what you want to call it. All ya got to do is 'Run and gun' your way to the radio shack. LoL, did the radio in the little shack at the end not work for you??? The truth of the matter is I really don't like this type of map much but it is the easiest to learn first for mapping. Oh and the spawns do stop after 20 or 30 of 'em come out of each one
